And now you realize that there are many reasons why bugs occur and the first thing everyone says to do is to update drivers; so putting them in an opening discussion, regarding a bug, helps bypass the typical response in order to get to the heart of the issue.
Thanks for your non-help. Your wisdom is truly boundless.
Thanks. Yeah, that's what I was going to attempt after I finish this session. Enjoying the game too much to bother doing that right now lol
Not really. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I've found that when I use my headphones (Razer Tiamat) the sound works, but when it comes through the speakers (Bose) it seems to sound faint (again, as if the voice is far away or down a tunnel).
I ended up turning down the Sound while keeping the Voice up to 100, and that seems to help slightly.
Sorry, but that's the best I've been able to do thus far.
I would guess this is something that is programmed into the game so that distant sounds come in quieter, but it's a bit annoying when it's dialogue and you can't hear it. In the case of Dialogue I would say this is a bug.
Started the game:
EDIT: Yes, I did restart the game multiple times to check, and it always happened.
However, using heaphones (instead of speakers) that are directly connected to my computer fixes the issue for some reason.
It's really weird. I never had an issue like this with any other game.
The problem, as I understand it, is when surround sound is piped through in stereo (i.e. such as when using headphones) without mixing down to 2 channels. In my case, I was using a Focusrite 2i4 audio interface with stereo (non-surround) headphones in Linux, the solution was to edit pulseaudio settings. I followed the instructions here: https://www.reddit.com/r/linuxaudio/comments/84uj9w/comment/dvtkxb1/
