If you set your session as public other can join. If you don't want random people to join set your session as offline or as friends only.
On a side note, some achievements only seem to work if you set your session to offline.
I did set my session to public, so it sounds like someone joined my game. I don't have a problem with others joining my game; I just don't know how it works.
Soooo....How does it work?
Just now I went back to Ward 13 and I was shopping in the mall for supplies, when another player showed up. So I guess players can just show up in Firelink Shrine in this game? Okay. And then they kept asking me "Are you done?" and "Let's go," or something like that. I followed the player over to the red crystal and they put their hand on it. So I did too and we warped to another area.
How did this player talk to me? Can I do that too?
My game is still just showing the other player running around fighting. If this is my world and not theirs, why am I still just sitting here watching? Is it rude to kick/ban the player? Can I kick them out without banning them?
And iirc should you be able to kick or ban a player in the same menu. Is that rude? Probably, if you do it for no good reason.
Players who join your Public game will instantly spawn into your game if you're in Ward 13, but if you're out exploring they won't appear until you activate a checkpoint (you'll be able to tell they're waiting because their name and an empty HP bar should appear around the bottom-right of the screen).
The game has public VOIP, if you have a mic you can chat back but obv you need to configure it.
As for what the correct etiquette is, well... understand that YOU have left the game public, so it's your responsibility to be mindful that others will be spending their personal time joining you (whether they chose your game from the browser, or were randomly matched in).
That said, it IS your game and THEY chose to join a random player's game, so it's your rules for whether you want to kick them or not.
If they're being a ♥♥♥♥ over VOIP, kick them. If they're running around letting you die, not trying to revive you when it's safe, or not going out of their way to resurrect you at a checkpoint stone if it makes sense (bearing in mind all enemies respawn if they do this), then kick them.
And my BIGGEST peeve of all that will get anybody kicked/banned from my game... if they're not playing at your pace, they're just running miles ahead in the map, killing everything and having all the fun themselves while YOU actually take the time to explore buildings and find tomes, rings, amulets and quest items scattered around... don't feel bad about kicking them.
I want to make sure I understand this right: The only way I will join another person's game is if I initiate this from the main menu. If I start my game and there is someone else there, that is another person joining my game. Is that right?
When the other player revived me, it looked like they used one of those dragon heart (?) (estus flasks) on me. Do they have to use one of their dragon heart things or a consumable to help me up? Is there a limited number of times they can help me up?
How does the other player benefit by continuing to play in my game after I die? There game doesn't progress too, right? Do they get some sort of reward aside from looting corpses?
Again, I appreciate your help answering these questions and with any other multiplayer info you fee like sharing.
And no, rezzing another player doesnt consume one of your "estus"
I'm couch cooping it with a mate, which is class, cos like in dark souls we do each others worlds... but get twice the content :)
Yep & yep!
They consumed one of their own dragon hearts to do that. You as a player can either use them to heal yourself, or revive downed players. So revives are limited by the amount of charges (which will be increased the further you play), you can see how many charges another player has left by the number of "+" icons by their HP bar in the bottom right of the screen.
Like the above dude said, if they can keep playing then maybe they can pick you up with a dragon heart if you're just downed, or revive you at a checkpoint stone if you're fully DEAD dead. They can continue to pick up scrap and resources, or tomes/trinkets etc, and you'll be rewarded whatever they picked up too when you respawn. The only one I'm not sure about is whether you also share any XP they earn from killing enemies while you're dead.
From the sound of it, it shouldn't really matter if I kick a player after I die. Is this considered rude in the community? If so, I'll just chill and look at memes for a few minutes when this happens.
I mean unless they deserve it, or they're running away from a checkpoint stone to bring you back if there's one nearby, it seems pretty rude lol. If it's a matter of patience, I mean at least try to give them a chance to survive themselves and get you resurrected.
from my coop post:
Every info on CO-OP system and how it works (for newcomers who wonna know how co-op works)
I see lot of newcomers ask aobut co-op system so here I'll post some stuff some might find helpful.
everything like items, traits, levelups, pickups. materials, guns, armour, loot carries over except story progress. when you come back to your world you will continoue where You left off Not where you and buddies left of in their world.
In coop teammates get downed so you can revive them before they die. all things are shared (whoever picks somehting up, everyone get's it) except ammo and survival mode stuff.
All players nead to be near door to commence 5 second time rbefore loading screen.
Any player can choose travel destination.
Host can kick or ban players or set lobby to friends only.
Only host can change mode and reroll it. Quest items also don't carry over in coop.
If there are two players then game gets a bit more difficult and a further bit more for three players.
In singleplayer enemies in world scale to gear level (max leveld item plus one) and in coop goes same except it adjusts according to what gear level teammate shave and how many of you there are.
You can use some items and mods and such to heal or protect eahc other.
There is also friendly damage that scales with difficulty.
Isn't rly a problem tho except with some mods. In hardcore and survival where you only have one life a coop buddy come sin handy cuz he can revive you when u get downed or resurect you at a stone if you died. There aren't any hardcore public lobbies, only friends lobbies but survival has public lobbies.
You can toggle in the lobby browser which mode you want to play.
There is also a tiny bit of stuff you need a partner for.
There is voice chat but no text chat. Friendly damage can be a bit scary if it's higher difficulty and the attacker was much higher gear level then the victim.
U fortunately there is only a couple dozen lobbies to browse theough and most of them are normal or hard difficulties. This may wary on time of day, time zone and in general.
Game is good fun and I rly like the coop I just wish there was more higher difficulty public lobbies to join to. Oh and non dlc player can not join dlc players who are in corsus adventure or survival but campaing and all other 3 world adventures work normally.
Sry for typos, lazy, fast typing, dont care to fix. Hope info was helpful tho.
I think ive covered majority if not everything. And you get a defensive buff when you're near teamate or even betetr buff when there's two teammates nearby.
It's rly great coop and and hella fun. I love it
