Okay sounds good. Yeah I don't mind co op now and then.
There's no "matchmaking" function but you can browse lobbies by player count and gear score level to select an appropriate co-op match.
i recommend playing the game trough solo or with friends once befor starting public coop
If you play solo its much more intense because you know you cant go down.
Just had to add I died with one of my best hardcore character I had because my friend was with me and he sad lets kill the undying king. Well it was a huge mistake. I knew that fight is a ♥♥♥♥♥ and a very high risk but I was like yeah together we can do it. Well my friend went down and I got killed while tried to res him.
So playing with friends can also be risky :)
How it is if ill play with friends having less XP/LVL etc.? Can i play some solo, then join coop and again play solo? Should I catch some xp before joining friends that starts playing earlier?
I'd try and get closer to them in item level. I think that is what matters. I could be wrong :)
If your gear is lower you wont have much fun.
If its higher you just pull them thru and they wont enjoy or appreciate the game.
There are 5 points that makes it less appealing to play solo:
1) Equipment and abilities limitation and cooldowns
The equipment and abilities are primarily focused toward only defeating a small amount of even the weakest enemies. Having 1 medium enemy mixed with just a couple weaker monster can easily feel overwhelming early on. Being at least 2 players allows the fight to be more evenly divided. Some enemies are 10x easier when fighting as a group since some enemies have strong frontal defense, but almost no defense from behind. (This makes it so that 1 player act as aggro-bait while the rest is plumbing their bullet from behind.)
2) Discovery takes far less time in a group.
All items dropped, except for bullets, are "shared" between all players. So if you find 20 scraps, everyone gets 20 scraps. If you find an equipment, everyone who didn't got that equipment yet gets it. This makes is far more efficient at collecting drops when playing in a group.
3) More sources of damages.
Obviously, more player means more damage outputs in the field. The game, on a per player basic, is slightly slow. When alone, the time to reload feels a lot more heavy than when in a team. The number of bullets that can be shot is also reduced since your max bullet count doesn't raise regardless of how many players are in the group.
Having a total of 3 players with 26 bullets is better than having 1 player with 26 bullets as the number of enemies doesn't raise or drop either.
4) Teamwork bonus.
Every players in close proximity (the range can be buffed with traits and equipment) raise their teamwork passive bonus. It's a clear multiplier. This bonus raises each player EXP and some minor stuff. It's not making anyone invulnerable, but it does help making the experience less unbalanced.
5) Being able to get revived.
This is clearly the biggest difference with games like Dark Souls games. If you're down when you're alone, you respawn at the latest checkpoint. If you're down with a teammate close, that teammate can use one of his dragon hearts (replenishing healing item) to revive you. Even if he lack the item, he can still fight and revive you by moving to the closest red stone (checkpoint).
