Is this game honestly worth picking up?
I was really interested in this game when it first came out, but didn't have the money at the time, but I do now. I've noticed some of the reviews say that it's fun at first but it wears off quickly, is that true? I was a big fan of all the souls games, while I know it's not entirely relevant, I have heard this compared to souls but with guns. I'm just curious for those of you that have this game, is it worth it, or should I spend my money elsewhere? Thank you in advance, really appreciate any answers.

No real build diversity, kinda boring, fun with pals, the final boss might make you fall asleep

False. There are multiple build with different gameplay. Also as much as ypu play the more builds you can try and make them worth (including full melee build with shotgun).
Game respecting players time, so more you play - bigger the rewards.

To OP - game have great replayability imho. You might feel a bit grindy at some points, but gameplay process is pure pleasure. With difficulty settings you can have a cakewalk or pretty good challenge. I recommend to grab it and have a good time asap!

Final boss is ♥♥♥♥..... first playthrough was fine. Second was boring. You wont get Dark Souls replayability from this. If you have a buddy to play it with its cool for 20 hours or so

I enjoyed ever minute of this game as well. At easiest difficulty I did a normal and hardcore playthrough. Now I have seen most of the content and it starts to get a bit boring but that's the case for most games expect Dark Souls 3 and their likes.

The soulish thing is that all enemies are kind of dangerous. The roll mechanism adds a lot to quick reaction and evading shots instead of cover-shooters only. Melee is viable as well to either grind ammonition when you run low or to quickly counter-attack when reloading is too slow.

The semi-random feature is good as well, because you feel more like exploring a level instead of rushing to specific points you remember from previously runs.

And the bosses are fine too in my opinion. Most of them will spawn adds but its kind of necessary in my opinion because otherwise the fights might get too simple. The adds just force you to remove them quickly and to switch priority between boss damage and surviving.

Collecting and crafting are good to keep you interessted in farming stuff and coop is realy enjoyable.

The last thing I wanna do after 2 playthroughs is a coop nightmare run. Hence you see I am not yet feed :-) and would buy it again if I wouldn't own it already.

only if you dont have a problem with level scaling enemies. the game itself is fine, but rather than have preset strength enemies, the game has a disgusting scaling system where everything you encounter will always be stronger than you, unless its in an earlier already explored area. once yo hit max (gear) level, everything in the game is stronger than you always, and most can easily 1 shot you or pull off a cheap combo that will in effect, 1 shot you. because of the BS level scaling, enemies will constantly seem like bullet sponges, while dishing out insane levels of damage to your character.

boss fights are simple, they just spam a bunch of fodder enemies that will swarm you and each hit for 1/4 or more of your health. most boss gear is outright useless, having terrible effects as well as terrible damage. most of the special attacks are worthless. okay, i lied. no. you shouldnt waste your money. theres also no PvP (unless i missed an update and didnt see it), or proper communication. hell even dark souls 2 has voice chat for your summons.

visually its pretty stale. everything looks pretty much the same. armor choices are bland and boring, weapons usually look generic as all hell. youll fight alot of the exact same 4 or so enemies. everywhere you go. constantly. they dont even bother to palette swap them when you go to a new area. the areas all look the same, and the lazy procedural level generation produces the same results that procedural generation ALWAYS produces: a bunch of "random" dungeons that are all identical.

@Chad as of your profile you spend about 11 hours in the game and reached the broodmother. I would say that's about 15% of the game content or less. maybe not he most solid background for such a devastating review.

The graphics, sound and gun-play are super-good. maybe they improved the game since you played it last at september.

I have beaten the game twice (once in hardcore) and none of the mobs / bosses one-shot me ever. There is a lot of different gear for different situations and not only the glass-cannon build.

11 hours is more than enough to know if a game is trash or not.

I would say the game disrespects your time by potentially locking builds behind multiple playthroughs.

You are wrong.

God tier argument, can't compete. I should be thanking the devs for their genius game design of deciding based on RNG what is or is not a viable build for me so I don't have to worry about it.

wrong game. there are no builds here. youre thinking of a real game.

With a buddy or 2 it's great fun for about ~25 hours before it gets a bit repetitive. I checked in about 35 hours when I stopped playing, which was about 2.5 playthroughs and some adventure mode to grab missing items. We have unlocked about 90% of the items and the missing few were too annoying to grind for due to RNG event spawn.

I'd say grab it at a sale if you have a friend to play with and if you somewhat enjoy souls-like game play.

I would probably be playing it by myself, I enjoy playing games like this alone for some reason haha.

To everyone else, thanks for the responses, still haven't decided whether I'm gonna pick it up yet or not. Truth be told I'm having trouble deciding between this and a very different game than this, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 on Switch. I can only get one at the moment, so I've been watching tons of YouTube videos on both and I'm so split haha. Has anyone here played Xenoblade 2?
i havent played XBC2, but if you decide on "this game" id suggest getting code vein instead. its 10$ more and vastly supperior on every level while following the same general gameplay, except having proper levels instead of "randomly" generated ones that all look the same.look around on sites like g2a and you might be able to pick it up cheaper than this.
