Is there any penalty for dying?

It doesn't appear that I lose the money that I've collected during a run when I die. I'm still new to the game and trying to figure everything out.

Is there any penalty for dying, other than having to start the map over again?

Not really, your mods lose their charge but that's not much of a loss.

You don't even have to start the map over again. you just get put back at your last checkpoint.

yes so you never ever should run back, just die and your at checkpoint. even on harder difficulty

Thanks all. I think I understand the checkpoint system. But, what do you mean I should never ever run back, ZAToM? Run back where? When I die, I just go back out into the streets and press onwards. I'm still in the first area.

The mobs respawn again, and if you are far away, you might have to run a lot. And you lose mod charges. That's about it.
