Labyrinth Key - Red and Purple Gates

I just got the key by helping the Undying King, and noticed when I port back to the Labyrinth area, that there is two gates: Red and Purple. Are these two different paths? As I chose the Red area and got ported back to Swamp area wherein I spent like the last hour figuring out if it was just a scam and should have picked Purple.

The key doesn't get used when opening those gates I believe, you can just go open the other one

One is the new area you need to go, the other is the area, where you got the heart. (It´s just the portal for the case, when you don´t help the king. So you are still able to farm in this area.)

The key won´t get used.
