Wildfire shot stacking?
is wildfire shot's fire DOT supposed to stack?

I believe so. Unlike hotshot where the dot would be disproportionally benefiting automatics if it stacked, wildfire is part of a single use attack that has charges that each must be filled.

It just feels a little strong to be stacking DOTs since each DOT does more than double the damage than the Hot Shot mod

It is part of the potential damage of the mod. Explosive shot has twice the explosion size and 3* the damage on impact. Wildfire shots main damage comes from the damage over time.

If you fired 5 explosive shots you'd do 360*5 (scaled by upgrades to weapon, that is max) or 1800 damage on impact. Without stacking hotshot would do 120*5+720 or 1320 damage with less aoe range. With stacking it is 600 + 3600 damage or 4200 total.

Hot shot adds flat damage that can get crit and weak spot multiplyers. Burn is secondary there.

I see your point here (thank you for the math) but I do think the damage it does along with the power required for each charge is a bit much.

As every pure damage mod, its effectivity falls off a lot on harder dificulties and it's one of the last bosses you will fight. It's fine like it is now IMO, nerfing this would be much, you still need to accumulate quite some energy for five shots.

I havent done a run through nightmare yet but I usually do runs on hard so we'll see.

I feel like it could have max shot count reduced to 4 or 3. On itself its strong but delivered in 5 could be too much. Then again, nothing several headshots cant do and arc with slow projectile is rather nasty against anything moving actively. Can be in a good spot as is.
