I do swich to other weapons however, the voice of the tempest for anything i want to keep a distance from, such as the butcher. And I use the guardian axe as a weapon for procing the undying abilityon ruin
If actually killing the thing you're hitting is on your priority list, it's pretty bad.
Prolonging melee by doing low damage is a mistake in itself because other enemies exist and you don't get to be all cutesy and heal your mistakes away in nightmare.
Also the lightning spear is probably the best crowd control weapon due to the explosions.
Well, I don't play on Nightmare, so I guess the regen is not that important there, considering the amount of damage one hit should take from your health.
Its bad and no fun to play, I rarely use it. I use the Skeleton Maul thingy or flame sword
It's almost definitely the best 'tanking' melee weapon, since that plus mantle makes you virtually unkillable.
It's damage certainly isn't 'low' and it doesn't meaningfully delay killing enough to call it 'bad'.
Cleared all the content on 'hard' mode with it without much issue, but can't say how viable it is in nightmare. Frankly, I suspect melee just isn't worth it in nightmare regardless of what you use.
Yeah, melee is nearly useless in nightmare. Even a dedicated tank / melee build cant survive the insane amount of dmg that mobs do.
