Backup Your Save Files!!!!!
A lot of people keep losing their whole saves/profiles/charcters and it's not that rare to happen. If you don't wonna rage and lose your whole progress back up your saves here and there. Just a reminder for some who are not aware of this bs bug. Happened to friend of mine recently. 50 hours of gameplay, gone. So, yea. Just a friendly reminder.

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Remnant\Saved\SaveGames\

And it still has "Mostly Positive"

Ppl losing like 100hrs of gameplay and it STILL has "Mostly Positive"!

Keep loving that deep and loving customer support!

We've been working on crashes and save issues and will continue to do so until they are fixed.

Ok I've been enjoying the game really much and ppl are absolutely right about loving it, but pls is there a more secure way to backup save files because losing my progress is an absolute nightmare.

Srsly keep up the good work though

Last resort attempt to fix this would be to do the following:

Go to Path: %LocalAppData%\Remnant\Saved\SaveGames
File 1: profile.bak -> profile.sav (Rename profile.bak to profile.sav)
File 2: save_0.bak -> save_0.sav (Rename save_0.bak to save_0.sav)

Make sure to overwrite files. I'd suggest making a copy just in case you mess anything up. Also, disable Steam Cloud as well. That causes issues with this game. o.o

Go to your Steam Library -> Right Click Remnant: From the Ashes -> Properties -> Updates -> Steam Cloud -> Uncheck Enable Steam Cloud

Low chance of success rate, but it's worth a shot. :Shrugs:

Best I can suggest to people that may find themselves in a similar boat is to make a backup save if you crash and especially so if your PC crashes/requires a hard shutdown/reboot. Once you do that, if you launch the game and notice your profile is corrupted, you can check the game's automatic backup in the backup that you made after crashing.

Those files would be called profile.bak and save_0.bak. Then follow the steps above but adjust accordingly for wherever you made that backup after crashing and you should be golden, theoretically speaking.

The following is about an automatic backup of a player's character made by the game after a player joins an online lobby:

Path: %LocalAppData%\Remnant\Saved\SaveGames
File 1: profile.onl -> profile.sav (Rename profile.onl to profile.sav)

Overwrite files as needed. Make a copy beforehand just in case you mess anything up. Simple as that, really. Turn off Steam Cloud if you have it as well. To do that just for this game, follow the following steps:

Go to your Steam Library -> Right Click Remnant: From the Ashes -> Properties -> Updates -> Steam Cloud -> Uncheck Enable Steam Cloud

Yes, this also helps if you play coop with someone who is cheating/editing game files. I ran into the first one today, and when I left their match I had hundreds of the rarest materials in the game. That... ruins the game for me. Seriously ruins it.

I restored the profile.onl file to the main profile, and that undid those changes. Only lost about 10 minutes, since lots of screwy weird stuff was happening in their game and I exited out really quickly.

Many thanks, BBB.

I've been backing up the game files ever since I was aware of the issue a few days after launch, but it's always good to ge the occasional reminder, as well as make other people aware that aren't already.

Absolutely, that's why I made this post. This issue's been happening way to often and is still not fixed. Kinda forgot to bump this but thankfully people commented so there wasn't need anyway. I really hope they devs adress this huge problem in future updates.

Just go to AppData > Local > Remnant > Saved. In Saved folder you'll find folder SaveGames. Copy that folder and paste the copy into a new folder somewhere. When your game deletes your game progress go back to AppData > Local > Remnant > Saved and replace current corrupted SaveGames folder with corrupted files with the copy of SaveGames that you have stored somewhere else (just make new folder called remnant backup and put copy there). Delete the current corrupt SaveGames (empty trash bin(not sure if nessecery)) and when you've done that just paste the backup copy. Remember to make a new backup of the SaveGames every time you're done playing the game or often so if glitch/bug/crash corruption happens you have the latest progress you've achieved atm. When making new copies just replace old folder or if u wonna keep old game progression too then rename every latest copy a number higher then the last copy (for example SaveGames4 is form ur yesterday playtime and today you backup ur files and make a new folder called SvaeGames 5 so you know which is latest or ofc simply paste over old one / replace them / paste on top of). I'm not too bright at this stuff either and english is my second leguage so just ask if you need further help.
