http://www.gamersheroes.com/game-guides/where-to-find-all-types-of-iron-in-remnant-from-the-ashes/
Whether you find a certain type of Iron or not, is not depending on where you are. It’s actually dependent on your item levels. You will only find Iron until you have at least a +5 item. Once one of your items is a +5, you will find Forged Iron. Once an item reaches the next tier, you will find a new type of Iron. Below is a list of the tiers so you know when and where you can start finding advanced forms of Iron.
Iron – Equipment Level 0-5
Forged Iron – Equipment Level 5-10
Galvanized Iron – Equipment Level 10-15
Hardened Iron – Equipment Level 15-20
It’s that simple. Simply upgrade your gear and once you require higher level metals, you will begin to find them.
Do you have any melee weapon/long gun/hand gun upgraded to +15? A +7 boss weapon is the equivalent of a +14 regular weapon. You should start getting hardened iron once you have at least one +15 in every slot. Meaning having at least all of the following in your inventory (Unequipped or equipped, doesn't matter): +15 hand gun, +15 long gun, +15 melee weapon, +15 helmet, +15 body armor, and +15 leg armor.
Difficulty does not matter by the way. I'd also like to add that this gear check is done when you first enter an area. You can check your Rating vs Zone in the advanced statistics of your character page.
It will *rarely drop* on the other worlds prior to that, so be picky on what you upgrade.
My 1st play was on normal, my 2nd is on hard (which really isnt hard as long as your gear is leveled up).
This is wrong. Difficulty doesn't matter. You can get Hardened Iron on the Normal difficulty setting.
Thanks Jack! I was able to upgrade every slot to a +15 and rerolled. I rerolled on Normal and started out. It was slow going but I did start to find Hardened Iron. It must have been those boss weapons at +7 that was shorting me.
It looks like a +15 for each slot and even if you are on Normal, it will work.
Not everything needs to be level 15.
On NG+ both weapons and equipped armor at +15, melee at +5.
Still getting hardened iron drops in the first zone.
That's probably correct now (Perhaps then as well) but if I recall correctly, the higher tier items you have overall across all slots, the better the drop rate of higher tier materials vs lower tier materials.
If I understand how the calculation works (and I have not reached gear score 15 yet), your highest ranked weapon and armor in any slot (even if not equipped) is most of your gear score. The other two slots will make a difference only if their highest upgraded item is a lot lower than 15 (if one is too low, that will drag your gear score down).
This, and boss weapons count for twice their ranked number.
