And weapons don't function the same, don't be silly.
Personally I just could not kill him with the coach gun (which I'd used the whole game on every single other boss), but when I switched the beam rifle, it was easy enough.
PS: The hardest fight for me was Ixillis. Again I think it probably would have been easier with another long gun.
I also used the Coach Gun for most bosses, this one included.
It really is the easiest for me, not an overstatement. It's probably the only boss I'm confident I can now solo first try. I can't seen what could go wrong except for me deliberately being spaghetti for his meatballs. He has by far the easiest add phase for solo and himself is a joke. First phase is harder imo. Of course I'm assuming one knows what has to be done.
The mistake people make is that they attempt to actually shoot Nightmare with their guns. Which is kind of a big no-no. I've observed that even when you show people the right way to do it... they will continue doing it the wrong way.
The only time one should be firing a shot at Nightmare is to recharge their mods. And it only requires one shot to recharge all your mods fully. In my opinion anyhow.
He's not really hard lol
Spoiler alert: You will not stun him. I've done a bit of testing since people like to claim that only a single mod will work against this boss. This is false.
Mods that work to stun Nightmare on the Normal difficulty setting solo:
(Tested with 10 stacks)
Swarm
Wildfire Shot
Breath of the Desert
Explosive Shot
Hive Shot (Hive Cannon)
Spore Shot (Sporebloom)
Stormcaller
Radioactive Volley (Defiler)
Flame Thrower (Spitfire)
Skewer (Devastator)
Hot Shot (Although this might depend on what gun you're using it on)
Some were obviously better than others but they all managed to stun Nightmare under these circumstances. On certain difficulty levels or with certain cooperative partners you may have to combo some of these mods and some of these mods will probably not work under more intense settings (Higher difficulty/more cooperative partners), presumably.
Well, of course I'll use Hot Shot
And then maybe get 25 stacks (max?) and try with just the lightning rifle
Good luck. :P

I doubt they can make the battle more interesting, but maybe will be less long on coop.
