The Maul Fight

The pack of dogs is killing this game for me. I’ve struggled here and there, but this feels like the first brick wall I’ve encountered. I love this game’s atmosphere and gunplay and some of the bosses are great, but I hate this one.

It’s just adds. Dogs after dogs and the main dog, Maul, will rush and stagger you as you try to kill them. It’s infuriating and I’m starting to really understand the complaints people have regarding the game’s over reliance on adds for boss difficulty. The thing is, it’s more frustrating than enjoyable. It feels like there’s no learning a boss’ attacks like in Dark Souls or other bosses in this game. It’s just constant adds and every time you get hit, you’re staggered and it’s basically guaranteed death if you’re being attacked by more than one dog. Gorefist and Maul are mechanically pretty similar, but Gorefist doesn’t just spam adds 1-3 times in a row.

Any tips for doing this solo? Its like every Souls-like game needs to have dog enemies that drive me up a wall.

Take care of the adds, and keep Maul in sight. Melee was viable with leech ring and Root Caller, but that got nerfed.
Or just, spawn adds yourself. Iron Sentry, Root Caller, the dorito boss mod.

use that mod that takes aggro as a root, its the best tactical tool if you are soloing. Also use a close range shotgun with an assault like weapon for this fight imo. This lets you mitigate burst waves with burst damage and a gradual damage.

soloing i used the fire smg and the shotgun, fill up that aggro mod and drop it when maul calls adds and while they attack it, use the flamethrower to drop dots on them and then focus the boss. that wiped out most of the dogs and i could

The only thing you need to watch out for is Maul's headbutt attack that knocks you on your ass. If you have Mantle of Thorns from Gorefist, it's quite good. Make sure none of your gear is underleveled.

Speaking of difficulty walls, any of the Root dungeon bosses on Earth can spawn with infinite rot explosions throughout the arena.

Backtrack and use the mech suit you unlock as part of the dune trials. It makes you slower but it allows you to tank most of the damage with abit of healing.

Maul was THE EASIEST boss in the game for me. Just activated Iron Sentinel and spam heavy attacks in melee. Got achievement Untouchable from killing him.

Maul was fairly easy for me. Only died once since I didn't realize it could do its charge attack twice in a row. As for managing the dogs, you need to kill them as soon as you see them then focus on Maul when you have a moment to breathe. Mods aren't required but would probably make the fight much easier. Hunting Rifle was my main weapon back then. I can provide a video if you want.

Most bosses I try 2 times. Once I die and don't feel like I have a chance. The second time I melt the boss, easy. Same with this boss. Second time, turrets, beam rifle, and 60 seconds. That's all I needed.

EDIT: I didn't look at the time, so that part is there for style. I have no idea how long the fight was.

Not on nightmare...and killing it with 1 HP after you blew the rest of its hp away with a shotgun doesn't count.
