Multiple characters?

let me start this by saying that i do not own the game yet and am just wondering about the characters. so i read that you can make up to 4 characters and this quote confuses me "You can create up to four characters in Remnant, each one will have the weapons, armor, traits sets, and mods that you’ve earned in-game. These items are not shared between characters."
so are the items and weapons shared or not is it saying that you make a new character and they start with all the things your other ones have? or is it saying they are unlocked? i have this question wondering if i start the game now and play it a lot then when my brother buys it in a month could i start a new character and not have him get shafted due to the level scaling?

Each character has separate inventories/trait unlocks/etc and at the moment there is no way of sharing them. Don't think there is any intention of changing that afaik, so it's pretty much the same as DS games.

A new character means starting with a clean slate on everything except achievements I guess, though those don't affect the game obviously.
