That itch version is extremely ancient; I really should update it. There were some major changes to the game in this area:
You used to walk very slowly, and you had a sprint option that required extra button presses. It was changed so that the default walk speed was very close to the old sprint speed (but not quite) but now you can also teleport (fast travel) to any room you have visited previously using your wrist map (as long as no enemies are actively looking for you)
You'll see pulsating teleport icons on the map. Just point to them and press the trigger. "fast traveling" across the map is a lot easier and faster than having to run all the way there, and once the map is clear you can teleport right back to the elevator.
It takes some getting used to but it's much better this way if you give it a chance. Less time walking through empty rooms and more action.
To be quite honest i really prefer to be able to sprint at my own will. The walk speed is way too slow. And Teleportation should honestly only be a Comfort Option in the menu. I need to be able to efficiently sprint and make 180° turns, the normal walk speed is way too slow especially when there are many enemies around, there is no way i could ever get used to this, being able to sprint was way more fast paced and overall better. Please patch the Sprint Button Back. As they say If it ain't broke don't fix it. Don't get me wrong i love Compound but i want whats best for it, and yes i know its your game and you're the Developer but please take this constructive criticism seriously and bring back the Sprint Button (in my case L3 on Oculus Touch Controller). Also how can i Disable that Red arrow in my peripheral vision?
The change you mention was made years ago and was not working out for a few reasons. You can massively increase the running speed by using the "Old Schooler" mutator if you like. Unlike the old version you played, the current version has "game mutators" that change the way the game is played. "Old Schooler" increases run speed and lets you carry as many weapons as you like, and might make the game to your liking. There are others, too: "Compound Bow" makes the game into an archery game, "Gun Magnet" makes weapons super abundant and disposable, etc, etc.
I still think hitting L3 on and off is way more efficient, having the choice to both Sprint and walk is always better, like in any VR Game. The L3 Controller on the Touch Controller is not even being used, nor do i have any issues reloading and sprinting in your Itch.Io Demo. Like i said there is no good reason to just get rid of the Sprint Button, or have to rely on a Mutator to be able to make a vital natural maneuver. At least have an option for people to have the Sprint Button back because i honestly can't be the only one who notices this. Please, this game is almost perfect, patch it back in, at least as an option. Again this is all Constructive Criticism.
Thank you for being polite; don't worry I'm not offended and I appreciate your Constructive Criticism. One of the major benefits of early access is to get real feedback from real players, and it helped make compound what it is today. I know this is super long but please read to the end as I have a suggestion for a compromise.
With almost every change, no matter what it is, there have always been some who like the change, and those who don't, and that's natural as people are all different and like different things. In those cases I've tried to add options where possible so players can customize to their preference.
As I mentioned before, the change to the sprint mechanic was made years ago, and there were of course people on both sides of the fence then, too.
The problem is that if I change it back to the old mechanics now, after years, I think I would upset more people than I would please. I personally prefer the new system as there is way less "down time" then their used to be, which was a major complaint back in the day.
How about this for a compromise: Compound has a few "cheat codes" that do things like make you invincible, give you every weapon, let you skip to any floor, etc., but there is no "fast mode" cheat. What if I just add a cheat that lets you adjust your run speed by an arbitrary amount? I can't make it a regular option as that wouldn't be fair on the online leaderboards, but cheats disable the leaderboards so I think it's OK. Something like this would take maybe 15 - 30 minutes to implement, so it's not taking away much dev time, and having another cheat to play with could be fun and help with debugging.
How does that sound? You can play at a speed that feels right for you, and the only compromise would be that online leaderboards would be disabled.
I would rather not use Cheat Codes at all to be honest. I want to play the game as it was intended (my opinion being with a Sprint Button). I do not need Cheats or Mutators, i know how to play the game effectively enough, I've played my share of VR Games with all Comfort Options turned off. I also don't need to carry all weapons at once, i don't mind carrying 2 weapons. I prefer having a fast paced challenge in my VR Games with no limits in movement with my choice to walk and sprint at will and do quick 180° turns in roomscale and crouching and taking cover as well as active reloading. I really don't mind exploring the entire map by manually sprinting accross it, fast Travel is ok sometimes but shouldn't be mandatory. If you can reload and Sprint manually in the Demo you should be able to in the full version as well. The L3 Button on my Quest 2 Touch Controller is just begging for the Sprint button back. No matter how long it may take to patch it in. Please think about it.
I get constructive criticism but he has explained this is how he likes it, has told you how it functions, the game in nicely balanced around the current movement speed. Just accept it. The way it is now works great, finish up a level and just click in front of the lift, you're right there ready to start the next level. There is no need to add sprint to this game.
I'm not trying to have go at you, its just if I say to dev I like it without sprint so don't change it, who should Dev please, me or you? You see what I mean. People who have bought this game in the last 3 years have had this same movement system since they bought it but he should change now just coz in your opinion its better that way. It unrealistic.
