COMPOUND
a lot of content is seeming to be locked behind harder difficulties
I am not sure if i agree with the idea of enemies that only show up on medium and higher. I think the point of a difficulty level should be just the difficulty itself, not the content that you experience. If the enemies are considered hard, i think they should show up on easy mode too but just be downgraded.

I at least think a notice should be added to the game's menu that easy mode will not feature some of the enemies so people wont play it unaware they are missing out on stuff.

I don't mind that so much but it doesn't matter when the enemies are so bad in design to fight that they arn't fun.
Jetpack man charges you full speed with a full auto machinegun. The only way I can kill him is by out tanking him. As he aims ahead you can't dodge his attacks. You also can't peek or corner ambush. And in VR with a wire you can't circle strafe though that doesn't matter as he hits you anyway...
Its the same issue with the rat and the shield dude. Bad design choices makes them unfun.
I've played the game now for six hours and seriously considering trying to refund cos its not fun sometimes.
all enemies for example aim ahead meaning you have to weave, but your character is slow and unresponsive and worse you move in the direction your hand is pointing not your head so yeah. Not great. Until they make teh boss enemies more interesting with varied behaviour other than spam full auto and bumrush there no point even fighting them.

Bosses are limited by difficulty because some of them are too difficult for new/inexperienced players. The rat, for example, totally destroys people playing sewers for the first time, hence why he only appears on hard difficulty (which you probably shouldn't be playing if you're an inexperienced player.) They will all appear post-loop so if you want to see the rat on easy, that's possible.

@bertpigeon basically proves my point lol, they seem to have a lot of trouble with the bosses and have only played ~6hrs.
(also you can change from hand to head based directional movement in the options)

I second the OP. But more importantly, I think a custom difficulty would be a more useful feature. Difficulty adjusts a lot of factors in the game. I would much prefer adjusting those factors myself to play the game that I want to play.

There is a custom difficulty option.
Go in the compound (where the game starts) to the table where there are food and drinks. There you choose it.

I know you can CHANGE you difficulty. I'm asking to customize the difficulty. I want to be able to select the enemy health from one difficulty setting while selecting the player health from a different difficulty setting.

Sh!t u rite lol, should've further clarified my b
Some stuff like the rat is downgraded for lower difficulties, but it's still too difficult for newer players. Once you get post loop tho the chains are off and the game knows you're not a new player so everything gets thrown at your regardless of difficulty.

I'll see if I can get in contact w/ the dev and have him add a setting to enable all bosses even on low difficulties, that seems fair.
I didn’t know the second loop would unlock all the enemies, cool

For anybody who wants to see (and kill) the Sewer Rat, that's easy. Just play on Hard, you'll encounter him soon enough. And if you want to actually beat him, there's the Damage Intensifier mutation! One shot, and he's done.

Custom difficulty. . . Well, we already have Easy, Medium and Hard plus the various mutations, which do have effects on the difficulty. For example, I find Hard is not as hard with People Populator.

The other thing I have to say is, even though Compound is a (notoriously) tough game, you can master it. Be patient, keep at it! When you take down Gold Leader, then you'll know.

With all due respect; I don't care in the slightest. I'm not asking for someone to explain to me why I don't need a feature that I want. I don't feel bad asking for something that would make the game more fun for me. I'm asking for the freedom to play the game the way I want to without interfering with the way that someone else wants to.
It would be neat if I could adjust frequency and type of item drops, player and enemy movement speed, player and enemy attack speed, starting and max health/ammo, and other stuff to tweak the game closer to my skill/preferences

Hello!

I'm very late to this discussion.

The game will be getting a balance update, probably next update. It should help the difficulty curve. Bosses will be getting the most attention as it's clear they aren't getting enough love on lower difficulties. I def. want stuff to look forward to when getting to high difficulties though so I'll have to find an interesting compromise.

Also, the unlock system is getting an overhaul eventually that should improve things again but the unlocking and progression will always be there, maybe just in a slightly different state.

This particular part of the game is still in flux so please let me know your opinion again once I've made the improvements / adjustments.

Indeed. No offence though. I dont' fancy dropping hour into a game getting good anymore. I really can't be arsed. I spend my time elsewhere when it come to learning skills (BMX riding) so when it comes to games i like em easy and fun. And unfortunately you can't tell how easy a game is til you play it... so having more options for player like me who don't feel pressured to "Git gud" and prove my game skills online... yeah... would be nice to have. So far I have seen the rat a few times and as i can't strafe and reload at the same time and as its kinda annoying i'd rather option to choose which bosses are in the game. See its all well me running though the game on easy no modifiers but then i loop once hit the rat and can't see anything else of the game and by that point i can't be arsed playing through the whole game again.
its alright for folk who have the skills but it would be nice to just be able to see the bossesi want to see without being barred access.
