The roof up the ramp where you first spawn has great cover and an ammo spawn point. The big pillar thing in the middle of the area can be used as cover for all 360 degrees. Only take cover the instant the bullets are about to hit you and focus on dishing out as much damage as possible while the heli is in the air to reduce the number of times / likelihood that he can do a bombing run which will force you to relocate. Rocket launcher is a great weapon to use against him if you have it unlocked, but if you are good with the arc of the pistol grenade launcher then that is even better; if you are consistent with it then he'll never be able to do a single bombing run as you'll trigger the next wave of enemies before he does it. If his state changes (i.e. smoke starts coming out of the engines in the first wave, or fire starts coming out in the second wave) then that'll trigger his retreat animation and there's no point shooting him any more and he won't attack you either so use that time to collect more ammo and get in a better position to attack the guards that spawn. I find looking over the balcony and waiting is a good spot and you can usually kill 70% of them from there right away. Just be careful of guys coming up the ramps to get you.
I hope that helps! If you have any more trouble on something specific please let me know and I'll be happy to give you some more tips
Just a small sampling of my boss wins (many more on my channel):
Hard Gun Magnet (hardest mode to fight the boss IMO)
Spicy Chaos
Spicy Old Schooler
BTW, there is a community guide here to enable Debug Mode, allowing you to skip to the last level if you really just want to focus on practicing the fight.
The game was very fun until this point, thanks for that though!
Did you already try beating it on Easy? Also some of the mutations can actually make the boss easier, I think a good deal of players (including myself) actually beat it with the Bow for the first time. No worries if you've had your fill, though.
Yes I have beaten it a few times on easy, and its difficult but still doable. I have unlocked as many mutations and weapons as I could but the skill ramp from medium(gameplay) to medium(endboss) is too steep for me to overcome. The gameplay cycle is too long to keep trying over and over without being demoralized/bored/exhausted (VR does make me sick after an hour).
