I also find it has this problem when it first loads after coming from Steam VR Home.

Interestingly, if I open Steam VR overlay whilst still in the Compound opening area, and the Compound scene remains in the background, the performance suddenly becomes very smooth. As soon as I close Steam overlay it's back to Migraine-land. Does the Steam overlay pause the game logic?
Once the problem has gone it stays away until opening the overlay.
steam overlay is smooth when i bring it up as wel, i'll try closing and reopening it a few times and see if it fixes it.
I can only assume that entering the dashboard would sometimes cause vive dashboard to fix itself.
Going to SteamVR -> Settings -> Applications and unselecting Vive Dashboard stops it from starting and hooking in leading to smooth gameplay for me.
I have an i5 4690K, 8GB RAM, and a GTX 1060 and I have zero issues. I know it's not very helpful, but my suggestiong would be upgrade your card.
But thanks anyways :)

Now the game is very playable (and damn it is awesome) but there's a ton of ASW at times, indicating that optimisation is still a big thing target, for what I assume is a fairly low Def VR game.
Happy to report 0 screen tear and I was actually able to play. My hardware hasn't changed since last time - so props to the dev for working on it.
Excellent news! I since got a Rift + Touch myself and noticed the framerate tanks if tracking is not set up properly (I moved the sensors around on the desk a bit). Running the sensor set up again seemed to fix the issue.
