Standard launching + Editor not working + access violation at address 00998357 AoWEPACK.dpl

Hello.

I am on Windows 7.
Launching the game either normally or by the setup result in the game not working (the processus exists, visible in the task manager, but nothing is displayed). Same thing with the editor.
The compatibility mode launches the game, but when i try to create my own wizard in campaing mode, i have this access violation bla bla error as indicated in the title.
(To note, there is also an error message when i click "Join !" in the campaign mode, which tell me that "French is not supported by the code page", even if the game is in English. Well, it does not block anything, as i have access to the next screen).

Wonder if i should have bough it via GOG rather than Steam, they made better compatibility stuff.
Won't ask for refund, but that is pretty sad that old games are so unplayables on new (well, Win7 not really new but you get my mind) stuff.

yea steam doesnt care sadly, GoG has way better support. anyways access violation could be with any luck something to do with privileges so on top of compatibility mode you could try running the game with admin privileges and also turning off any antiviruses or firewalls. i mean the fact that it gives you the error when its trying to create the file for the character hopefully means its that but it could be something else ofc

Thank you for your advice, 5M0k1N. Alas, i have already try that, to no avail. What i will try is to run it on a much older computer (Vista), in case of. Ah well, this is the life.

also, check the patch linked at the bottom of it as it fixes the game for some people

Thanks. I had not tried the patch, so i tried. But not to avail this time too. I suppose creating your own wizard is not supposed to be a cut scene or else.
Direct play is for the multi, if i am not wrong. I just want to play the campaign mode for now, so i just have done the usual (launch as admin and compatibility stuff).
