It does help to hae played it, but it's an "expansion" not a dlc. It should run more smoothly than D2 did, outright.

D2 ran just fine for me.

I'm not very fond of this way of doing expansions, I prefer ones at add to the toatal experiance not completely seperate entitiees.

It's a standalone expansion, so no need to have the main game (and it seems more optimized). Having played the main game would help understanding the fine points of the story however.

Well in this case I'm happy that they did it this way since the engine actually WORKS for this expansion.

I don't consider this game " an expansion " , it is a standalone game to me because you don't need Dishonored or Dishonored 2 to play it and it is a totally different character , soooooo expansion to me does not apply here .

The best way I've ever seen expansion/sequal done is Mass Effect 1,2, &3. Choices you make in the first game have an effect all the way to the end.
