Chained Echoes
Sea of Stars (2023)
Cross Code
Lufia 2 : Rise of the Sinistrals
Star Ocean 2 : Second Evolution
Breath of Fire 3 and 4
Cross code is not chrono trigger. It is a a wantabe game, but believe me, it is not chrono trigger.
As for the others, yes, chained echoes is a good one, also sea of stars is too. I would also say Crystalis from the SNK collection is also a good chrono trigger similiar game, but be warned, it uses the bump system similiar to the early YS games since it is such a old game.

Actually the only reason i got that collection is because of crystalis. It is the best game on it, especially if you like chrono trigger like games. It does feature some time traveling, but not on the level of chrono trigger. It has to do with the story, but i will not say anything else to ruin it.
YS 1 and Ys2 is also like chrono trigger, but use the bump system, and not the ATB system like chrono trigger uses, but they are wonderful games made around same time chrono trigger was.

No time traveling in it though..
I wish they had robotrek on steam...that did have quite a bit of time traveling in it.

Yea the working design versions of the game were awesome translations.
This game is the closest. It's basicly all the same in a much smaller world. It's actually openly stated that it was made as a love letter to CT, some would call it Spiritual Successor
This is late, only just saw this but... uh... no duh it's not Chrono Trigger? Nothing is ever going to be like Chrono Trigger. Nothing. However, it's got an incredibly similar vibe and is of high quality, even if it's not the same level of "perfect" as CT.
Perhaps you just didn't like it?
It was decent, not remarkable. It was created by one person.
The gem system was horrible, but the combat was well balanced. The creator said he would rework the gem system, but is working on fixing bugs first. As many people have been nagging about how horrible the gem system was.
The game tried to balance the game enough that status effects were actually more useful and healing wasn't as over powered as other games. Even though most battles were kind of forced onto you because you couldn't go around them, at least they were engaging enough to not come off as boring.
It's nothing like Chrono Trigger. It's not even the same kind of game. It shares nothing with Chrono Trigger at all, except 16 bit graphics. It's not even a similar vibe or similar quality.
Cross Code is a fine game, but it shouldn't be brought up in relationship to Chrono Trigger at all. There's no connection there, and no comparison to be made.
