How does this game hold up?
Would be buying for the story as I've heard it's one of the best.

Extremely well.

It is the greatest RPG that has ever been created, and still remains one of the greatest video games in history.

im doing my first playthrough, graphics are great. story is loads of fun. combat even feels great and honestly more modern than most jrpg titles of modern era. better mechanics IMO.

mostly im loving the story though. its very unique and its hard to put the game down.

This game is the GOAT - must play for any RPG fan.

It’s fun but it’s not the best.

Holds up well. Not sure it deserves the hyperbole that others give it, but it's a fantastic 90s JRPG. It doesn't have the modern helpers Square put in their other top tier games like 3X combat speed option for grinding though.

I cant say ive felt a need to grind anything so im not missing a 3x speed or anything. Plus the real time aspect of things honestly I wouldnt be able to cope with faster combat unless I played in the alternate mode.

It's okay, it's one of those "you had to be there" kind of games.

CT gets a lot of love because some people grew up with it. Comments like:

...are from people who have an emotional attachment to this game. These nothing bits of praise don't really say anything about the game other than "this was part of my childhood".

I didn't grow up with this game, even though it's my era and I played similar games like Secret of Mana, Suikoden, etc. Both of which i consider superior to Chrono Trigger.

I really recommend playing the original SNES version before playing the PC one

Playing this fine on both Steam Deck and windows 11 os. No problems so far and made it to the future already.

I played it a while ago and loved it. I went back to it with the Steam release. I felt a bit disappointed. As in it's overall good but not quite as good as I remembered.

It's a game from another age, it's not like verbose modern RPG. The whole story is explained in a handful sentences. It's inventive and nice yet simple. Not very exciting combat but it has a nice dynamic touch that makes it not too boring, besides there's no need to grind at all.

Overall it's biggest issues is the content added with the ports. It's really boring and feels out of place, really bad content tainting the original high quality game.

One of the better RPG of it's time I would say but it aged at the same time. An interesting experience, worth playing but not quite best game ever in my view.

It's an excellent game but I'd play on a different platform, this port is not great. Randomly crashes for me but not too often. Also ran into a bug where the game soft locked when trying to name a character.

It's a perfect little gem of a rpg which was made by the dream team of rpgs back then during the golden age of sprite based video games with a stellar soundtrack and this version has a bonus ending which buckles all loops and answers everything which was left in the vague suppositions domain back then. Play it, live it, remember it forever. You'll regret it while lieing on your death bed if you don't.
