It is the greatest RPG that has ever been created, and still remains one of the greatest video games in history.
mostly im loving the story though. its very unique and its hard to put the game down.
I cant say ive felt a need to grind anything so im not missing a 3x speed or anything. Plus the real time aspect of things honestly I wouldnt be able to cope with faster combat unless I played in the alternate mode.
CT gets a lot of love because some people grew up with it. Comments like:
...are from people who have an emotional attachment to this game. These nothing bits of praise don't really say anything about the game other than "this was part of my childhood".
I didn't grow up with this game, even though it's my era and I played similar games like Secret of Mana, Suikoden, etc. Both of which i consider superior to Chrono Trigger.
It's a game from another age, it's not like verbose modern RPG. The whole story is explained in a handful sentences. It's inventive and nice yet simple. Not very exciting combat but it has a nice dynamic touch that makes it not too boring, besides there's no need to grind at all.
Overall it's biggest issues is the content added with the ports. It's really boring and feels out of place, really bad content tainting the original high quality game.
One of the better RPG of it's time I would say but it aged at the same time. An interesting experience, worth playing but not quite best game ever in my view.
