I have dogs IRL and do like animals, but in a video game, I'd rather have the positives (playing, cuteness) and none of the negatives (health concerns, expense) so...
Exactly this dude, i have no interest in sims games and to me this was not a sims game, it was about buying houses, doing them up and flipping them, not worrying about if your pet has been fed or needs a drink or any of that crap, yes have them there to play with once in a while or watch them just amble about but all of the sims junk that is added needs a slider that can be turned off completely.
That's false advertising if they show something in the trailer for it and do not include it, that's a whole different ball game and just a bit naughty considering the sole purpose for some buying the expansion might of been to own one of the dogs they showed and did not include.
However, if the pets can die, I'm out. I found out last week that my real life cat has a terminal illness and absolutely cannot handle pretend cat death on top of that.
I'm so sorry. I've lost pets before IRL and it's hard. I hope your cat has a contented golden years.
Fun fact: My first pet is a Pomeranian (the one I got from the box) and I was mowing the lawn on the first job to get rid of the weeds... and I accidentally ran over him with the lawn mower... I yelled out "OMG I just killed my new baby!" And slowly pulled back and he was looking up smiling at me like nothing happened.
So it's a relief that you can't accidentally murder your pets with a lawn mower. Phew.
I bought the DLC anyway for the gameplay additions (changing external doors, stairs, painting ceilings) and the items, which are cool; lots of nice, useful stuff. Decorating with pet-related items will also not hurt. I don't plan to engage much with the pets aspect itself, and as far as I can tell, you don't have to. You can decide to not adopt the puppy you find at the first job, could just hand it off to the caretaker, and never adopt another pet either. Seems perfectly alright to me. Though I gotta say, I actually appreciate the addition of some life to the game, which feels at times weirdly apocalyptic in its emptiness. I might keep a pet just so something moves.
There is no false advertising, so you can stop kvetching about imagined slights. The selection of available pets is semi-random and rotates every half hour or so, that's all. I found a Rottweiler puppy at the first job, and could adopt a husky from the caretaker, so they're both definitely in the game.
