[NewColossusTweaker] v0.3 -- Head Bobbing, Dot Crosshair, Fog
I just wanted to make you aware that I developed a small mod to deal with a few issues with the game. So far this is nothing extraordinary, but since I saw a few posts about the head bobbing, I thought some of you might be interested.

---

What is this?

This mod allows additional tweaking of Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus. This includes options to adjust the amount of head bobbing, as well as forcing a dot reticle.

You can find the mod along with additional information here[community.pcgamingwiki.com] if you want to try it out.

Description

The New Colossus Tweaker (NCT) is a small mod that offers additional options for Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus. The goal is to fix issues that prevent people from enjoying the game, as well as to provide quality of life improvements.

The mod is still in its infancy with very limited functionality. It may be extended and improved based on user feedback in the future.

Features
  • Adjust the amount of head bobbing when moving or turning
  • Force the game to always use the dot crosshair regardless of the current weapon
  • Disable rendering of fog*
*If you are interested in how the game looks without the fog, you can find a series of screenshots on my website[methanhydrat.wordpress.com] that show the differences for some areas.

Supported Versions

Important: This fix relies on the latest, fully patched executables of the supported versions. Older versions or ones that otherwise have been tempered with might not work.
  • Steam (uncut version)
  • Steam (German version)

Known Issues

Adjusting the amount of head bobbing can lead to glitches with the camera in certain situations. This includes issues with the war map, as well as unexpected turns when crawling with the constrictor. Use the corresponding toggle binding to temporarily disable the bob scaling when necessary.

Version History

v0.3:
  • Added support for the German version of the game
v0.2:
  • Added option to disable rendering of fog
v0.1:
  • Initial public release

Appreciate this so much, the damn bob is unbearable and it's a shame we need people like you out there doing the dev's work for them. Much appreciated again.

Excellent, but I have two questions:

1. Does this cause any FOV or other visual glitches? I remember reading about a manual tweak to the settings that could disable head bobbing, but it caused such issues.

2. Would this include the bobbing when crouched and walking? I don't notice the problem with head bobbing until crouch walking, but it is the entire camera moving, which makes aiming while crouched annoying. I'd actually like to reduce that if it's a part of this tweak.

Anyway, thank you for the tweak regardless.

Danke! I was wondering why the dot reticle was not an option.

The mod adjusts the amount of additional camera movement when turning or walking forward. It does not affect the bobbing of the weapon. If you set it to 0.0 the game camera pretty much behaves as you would expect from any other first-person game. This includes the movement when crouching.

I played a few levels with it disabled and did not notice any glitches other than the ones I already mentioned. As stated above, the most notably issues are the war map, which becomes unusable when the bob scale is set to smaller values. But you can just use the toggle binding for that, even when the map is already open. The other issue occurs when using the constrictor, but only when crawling through pipes. They are still usable though. This might be a medium to to non-issue depending on your playstyle. Again, this is what the binding is for.

I have taken measures to make the mod robust against updates of the game. However, it still relies on the layout of the executable to a certain degree, which means it might break when the game is patched. It depends on how much the update changes the code that is relevant to the mod. If it does break, I will upload a new version of the mod as soon as possible.

True.
But, Wolfenstein II does not "shake the camera" to imitate it. As BJ's is fully modeled in the game, the movements of his head are connected to the movements of the rest of the body.
As you turn, your legs turn followed by your waste and torso and head.

Which your eyes compensate for. Which the game lacks. Therefore reducing realism.

This is a god send thanks. I can now play the game without puking afterwards.

Thank you for the acknowledgement. From all my mods/fixes, PRIC has the absolute worst effort-to-popularity ratio. So I am glad to hear that at least some people like it ^^

You're welcome! However, I do have one question and one minor complaint.
Do I need to have PRIC open when I play Prey?
+Should NCT also be open during Wolf2 gameplay?
Sometimes PRIC randomly "forgets" my settings during gameplay.

With both PRIC and the NCT the GUIs are only for configuration. So you do not need to have anything open once the mods are installed and configured.

However, PRIC currently does not apply the settings when a level is loaded for the first time within that playthrough. This is because a first time load is different from a regular load and the mod does not cover that at the moment. A workaround for this is to just save and reload once you entered a level for the first time. After that, the settings should be applied correctly, even if you return from another level later.
