I for one have never had a single crash, hiccup or issue with the game. Running at a solid 60fps the entire time.
Secondaly, Tiago worked on DOOM. He didn't come in and start working on the engine after id were done with DOOM technically.... he was/is the lead tech for id Software on idTech6.
The main reason some people run into issues in Wolf 2 they didn't have in DOOM... is because Wolf 2 is not using idTech6. It's using an updated build, with changes made internally by MachineGames and id Softeware. Roughly making it idTech6.5
Also, it uses Vulkan exclusively... while DOOM used OpenGL at release, and later added a Vulkan option with an update.
I've seen plenty of people who could run DOOM in OGL flawlessly have nothing but issues trying to run DOOM in Vulkan.
The Vulkan API is not nearly as stable, or as widely supported as OGL. So, there will be fallout for some users.
But, basically, the engine a game uses means NOTHING in regards to how it will perform or how stable it will be.
This is something people seem to not be able to grasp. People want to discredit the work Arkane did on PREY's PC version because it ran on CryEngine. Which is a crap statement.
Look at Homefront Revolution, SGW2 and 3. And plenty others. There have been lots of buggy CryEgine titles.
Also, compare Arkane's DisHonored 2 and Dead of the Outsider. Same engine, though Outsider runs beautifully and with none of the issues DH2's rushed development cycle ended with.
Or, look at the myriad of games using the Unreal Engine. Hundreds of titles on the same tech, yet running the gauntlet from stable or unstable, great performance... to stuttering/hitching messes.
It does not matter that DOOM and Wolf 2 use the same (almost) engine. Because they were not made by the same people. They were not using the exact same code, the exact same renderer... physics code... audio code... everything is changed, some small... some large.
But, in the end, they perform differently because they ARE different games made by DIFFERENT studios.
And, again, are NOT using the same branch of the idTech6 engine.
Remember that Wolf 2 uses Vulkan exclusively, and as such... if you run DOOM in OGL, the different APIs could be the difference you're experiencing performance wise.
I prefer DOOM in OGL simply because it "feels" better. Vulkan does provide higher overall FPS, but OGL feels smoother.
I wish Wolf 2 gave an option to switch to OpenGL. But, I know Bethesda are really pushing Vulkan going forward with all new games.
Honestly, it seems like the best aspect of idtech is how it scales, particularly for consoles, but then again consoles don't boast higher standards like a steady 60 frames minimum.
I will think twice before wasting money on products made by those devs.
Totally. Must have fixed the issues. Doesn't even inch away from 144FPS at max settings. That's why one buys games months later unless multiplayer.
thanks for all the answers and I am happy to hear you are not experiencing any problems with the game (or anymore). Will give the game another shot (no pun intended). :)
