Completely changed look of characters - WHY???
Why is it so difficult to keep the models of characters? Why does Anya look so significantly worse in this game than in TNO? Why did they change Caroline, BJ, Set?

What is the logic behind changing the appearance?

I didn't notice the difference, honestly.

(The two appearances are FIVE MONTHS apart, story-wise.)
Can someone explain this to me?

It's a new engine, right? id tech 5 to id tech 6?
I imagine they rebuilt the character models for game 2 and the new tech. Maybe it has to do with how that, or maybe the artists just decided to make some improvements. Maybe both.

That's... not how it works.

The graphics artists work with HIGH POLYGON COUNT models - with millions of tiny surfaces. These are not made in the "engine", but rather in professional 3D graphics software. Then, those high-poly models are reduced into low polygon count models for the specific game engine.

There is no reason why a better engine (idTech 6) should result in less likeable graphics than idTech 5. Someone tampered - someone wanted to be called "Character artist" or some such, and in doing so, completely changed Anya's look (and everyone else's as well, apparently). This is extremely annoying for me - it sucks when it happens in a reboot (Tomb Raider etc.), but it's almost unforgivable in a sequel which is just 5 months (story-wise) after the previous story.

Less likable is an opinion. I'm assuming the developers liked these models more if they're the ones they went with.

Anya did stick out to me as looking odd after it had been a while since I played The New Order, and that paints a pretty clear picture as to why.

Some of the new visuals look much better, but a few do stand out as oddly poor. The dogs were the one I noticed especially, as they look very downgraded in TNC - don't even get me started on BJ's pet in the beginning.

Blasko's hands seem to look a little better, although I'll have to replay TNO to be sure. Again, lots of odd little details seem out of place, or lower on graphical quality, including some of the the character models.

I agree... Enya [or Anya] is pretty ugly.

Anya, Caroline and BJ were perfectly fine in the older games... Its odd and i wish devs/pubs would specifically mention WHY they make these major changes to iconic chars in their sequels, seemingly at random.

Its annoying.

Dead eyes, worst skin shaders programming, worst lighting. They even try so hard to position most NPCs so their faces turn away from you. Production mistake , outsource budget cut etc.

dead thread from more than half a year ago, pointless necroing, etc.

I was re-playing TNO and can't help but notice how everyone else looks different (better) in the game compared to TNC. I agree that TNC has better graphics, but why different models for same characters? They even changed how BJ looks, which really weird for me.

BJs design change is one of the only ones I actually liked between TNO and TNC. Probably just because he looked younger in TNC.
