That "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ die you Commie piece of ♥♥♥♥!" (or in MG Wolf replace Commie with Nazi) attitude. Most games simply use them as historical/convenient enemies. Even the vast majority of WW2 games didn't really feature contempt/hatred of them as enemies.
So... uh... all you people coming in to chime about game x where you fight Communists... kinda missing the point. In fairness the OP really should have reworded the thread title.
Also, to stop the movie becoming too depressing (and thus unprofitable) you would need the narrative to culminate in at least a partial victory for the characters and I'm sure most of the actual small scale victories against the worst excesses of the Soviet Union were mostly achieved by individual communists working against the will of their own state apparatus but is that the story you want to tell?
Nazis on the other hand are a ready made villain with globally recognised branding and without the ambiguity of the Soviet Union, who after all made as big as a contribution as any other nation in the winning of World War II. Nazis, having directly engaged and tried to kill american troops on multiple occasions and not through some proxy war like Vietnam makes them an easy sell for Hollywood.
