star cards

who are/what is the point of the star cards? are they devs, made up stars from
the period, real stars from the period (if so, don't recognize any of them), major
kick-starters (actually don't even think they had a kickstarter campaign), just another
sop to players who hunt them to make the game seem longer than it apparently is?.......
