Grace is annoying

I know they wanted to give us a strong black female character but Grace is just a D-bag. There is such a thing as having such a huge chip on your shoulder it just becomes irritating and she is a character that personifies it. She just tries to pick fights by acting like she's better than everyone else, she's a terrible replacement for Caroline.

You really need details that are already present in the game on why the Nazis are bad or is this just more evidence of a dying education system?

I mean, they do have a point though. There's so many of the side-characters in the story whose sole personality trait is "I hate the nazis because they're nazis". There's barely any depth beyond that. It isn't really anything to do with what the game actually gives you or real world history gives you so much as just... They could at least have a few more notes to their personality.

No, they really don't have a point. There's like a 140 things to read that flesh out the world and characters. Not to mention the things that are said by Engel and the conversations you hear the basic ♥♥♥♥♥ enemies say themselves. Plus, the mission leading up to character this thread focuses on. Nuked out remains of a major American city. And this after they've already conquered a whole other continent.

The game has some pretty deep flaws but world building isn't it.

World building isn't the flaw in question though. Character writing is.

We're going in circles. Nothing wrong with character writing, the details of why they hate Nazis are already presented in the game in the form of world building. All those things to hate the Nazis for are in readable collectibles, missions, dialogue, etc etc. All of the characters have depth but yes fighting the Nazis is what brings them together and is a focus. But not the entirety of them.

Nothing in the game is really subtle but I can understand not really paying attention at times. Grace herself is presented as a Black Liberation figure of the 60s with a bit of Blaxploitation media of the 70s and if that doesn't resonate then easy to tune out.

Except they don't have any depth, because all they say is we hate the nazis. They have absolutely no personality beyond that. The end result is that Sigrun ends up with significantly more personality than the rest of them combined due to not being soley "i hate nazis" and also having her inner conflict between doing what she wants to do, vs obeying her family and upbringing.

Genuinely curious how you've missed the bits about BJ and Anya or Wyatt/Fergus and even Grace herself since those are all front and center as well. Sigrun herself pretty much ends up in the "I hate Nazis" camp but the only reason why you see her grow is cause she's breaking away from a Nazi upbringing. But that's growth, and not depth. HER WORLD changes, while the other characters are still steeped in the one shown. That doesn't make them one dimensional. And the details of why they are haven't gone anywhere.

Except Bombate thinking on it he doesn't really get much to read upon unless I've forgotten something.

The Grace character was so annoying and very obviously pandering. So many characters are caricatures and over the top stereotypes, I honestly couldn't tell if this game was embracing or parodying all the DEI stuff of the time. The scene with the topless pregnant woman duel-wielding machine guns is one of the most hilarious video game moments I've ever experienced.

On the SEVENTH YEAR ANNIVERSARY sheesh, well, eff it, I feel compelled since so many are negative...

Grace Walker rules. Y'all are on crack, Grace is a perfect powerb*tch character, I mean sledgehammer-heavy, borderline-caricature perfect, but who in this series isn't? Down to the "sheeeeet, white boy, you just 'nother damn honky tryin'ta tell me what's what!" dismissive borderline-racist attitude delivered in her Mississippi-by-way-of-NYC patois, a badass Nazi killer on a level of Billy's even, chain-smoking while preggers, her Black Revolutionary Front past (probably meant to be BLA), her clothes, even giving her thyroid eye disease / Grave's... the whole package is <mwah!> chef's kiss perfection. Love her! un-ironically.

With Norman dead, I'm imagining in the gap between TNC and Youngblood, the 3 of us were good friends, raising Abby Jess and Zofia together, with Uncle Fergus never too far away. Shaddup it's my fantasy, y'all hate her anyway.

re: embracing or parodying DEI... aww damn it, I don't want to think about that, but let's hope it's the latter, because that's funnier.

Oh I totally agree that in terms of the performance, she's fantastic. Her actor nailed perfoming the role. The issue is more rooted in how the writing itself is what sucks with her (and many of the other side characters in the game)
