Stuck on every quest

Alright so I am pretty new to this game. I've talked to everyone initially at the party and gotten like 12 opportunities but I cant finish any of them cuz I can't figure out how to do the stuff they need me to do. I have collected all the items in the house that I can find and exhausted all talk options but can't seem to apply any of them to the quests. I don't get it. What am I missing here? I'm really confused.
