So the custom stories show up in the drop-down on the title screen, but no characters are around? What about events like intro narration (if any was set up), thought bubbles, etc.? If they show up in the drop-down, they're probably installed correctly, but make sure. You should have a custom story folder with ONLY .character files and one .story file. No other .zips, .rars, or subfolders, etc.
Is your PC running OneDrive? It's been known to cause issues with programs that store data in a User's \Documents folder, including HP. What about Windows file compression; any folders or files compressed? You'd see those as icons with little blue arrows in the corner.
To install those created by the community, you simply need to drag and drop their custom story folder into the game mods folder.
Thanks for the quick answer, so I tried some stuff :
- I verified each custom story folder, and they only contain the .character files and one .story file.
- I've desactivated Onedrive
- No files or folder are compressed
- And I made this test : I duplicated all the "Original Story" folder, renamed the story script "Original Story Test" and exported it to a folder with the exact same name. When I'm on the title screen, I can see and launch this new "Original Story Test", but then it's again an empty house, and I don't see the usual starting message or anything else. However, I can interact with everything, furniture, doors, picking and inspect objects (The description text appears) etc...
Documents\Eek\House Party\Mods\Stories

I thought that since my game is on Steam, I had to use the steam folder
Anyway, it's very confusing that the game allows you to see and launch a custom story saved into the wrong directory. By the way, when I wanted to copy my stories in the right directory, I noticed that it already contained a copy of my custom story folder from Steam (same name) but a copy without any file. Confusion/100
Thanks again i was about to give up the csc definitely :)
for example xmasballz and the story name shows up as selectable but when i start the story no people etc as said above - what is my mistake?
Edit: moving to Game Help.
Ahhh I'll try to find another folder, thanks!
