Can't load stories
I keep launching and i always get the "Error: There was an error writing the story files to your documents folder. Please ensure the application has proper permissions." I've given permissions and reinstalled but keep getting it, i know it's cause the documents folder was completely empty. but i can't figure out how to populate it.

Hey there,

If your Documents folder is empty, chances are all the files are hidden. Right click on the Documents folder and open up Properties. In the General tab, which should open first, you'll see boxes at the bottom to make the files "Hidden" or "Read-only." Make sure "Read-only" is selected, hit Apply, and see what that does for you.

Alright, let's try some other options:

1) You may need to go to C:\Users\YOUR NAME\Documents\Eek , right click on the House Party folder, go to Properties -> Security, and make sure there that your account (hopefully you are the PC Administrator) has Full Control. All "Allow" permissions should be checked.

2) You may need to force the game to run as an Administrator. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\House Party , right click on HouseParty.exe, then Compatibility, and Check "Run this program as an administrator", then Apply and Ok.

3) You may need to adjust your User Account Control settings (UAC). For more info on that, check out this article. The highest setting can interfere with some games and programs. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security/identity-protection/user-account-control/user-account-control-overview

4) This isn't an error that is ONLY about permissions. It can be caused by anti-virus, anti-ransomware, or other security software. Our folders, files, and game process need to run without real-time protection trying to stop them from, to put it simply, "seeing and talking to each other". You should check this link and look into allowing/white listing/giving exception to our game through any security software you have installed: https://steamcommunity.com/app/611790/discussions/1/1733216261964524301/
