Yes, they said it in the announcement.
Was suspecting this was going to happen eventually with one of the updates, it's why I never really played much (only 3 hours). Still waiting for this to be finished.
By the way, it's how games should be played: after the final patch.
Which announcement? The most recent announcement about this new update doesn't say anything about old saves not working anymore. Besides I seem to remember them claiming they wouldn't do that anymore after early access was over.
"NOTE: Because of the new super fast save/load system, old save files will not be compatible with the new version, but you will be able to play old saves by rolling back to the 0.2.2.1 version of the game by switching to that beta branch on Steam."
