I'm stuck on luring the baddie out of the vent. Anyone knows how to proceed from here?

you have to put the broom next to the ac and then put patricks head on it, then light patricks head and after it burns put the penguin on it and light the penguin. then go to the ac app on the tablet and close the vents in this order: light blue, pink, yellow, blue

Okay, I'm miles behind the game because there is no way I could've deduced this without a walkthru. Is there like a character conversation where they basically outline this for you? I mean I've learned about the AC app on the tablet, and I picked up enough hints through conversations about smoking the perp out. But using the broom, and patrick's head, and then the color combo? I've had no clues that hint at any of that... or if I did, I totally didn't pick up on them.

Edit: In retrospect, I think I do vaguely remember one character saying something about setting a rotisserie or something up to make something smoke, but I totally didn't make the connection and figure out the broom-head-penguin mechanism from it. That's the problem when you fill the game with so many gag hints and throw a vague real hint into the mix.
