Can't complete Dragonstone Quest!

I just cleared Bleakfalls Barrow on the claw quest. While on that quest, I also picked up the Dragonstone.

Now that I'm in Whiterun, the mage is telling me to do the Dragonstone quest, but I already have it. He won't let me give it to him, so I can't complete the quest. I even ran through Bleakfalls Barrow again to see if I could get it to recognize that I already picked it up, but nothing worked.

What do I do now? I think this is a main story quest, isn't it? Is there a way to reset it so I can complete it?

Previous saves are not labeled, nor are they all kept in the list. It's almost impossible to figure out what save to go back to.

Besides, I already have the stone, so I should be able to turn the damned thing in.

A few days late, but I had the same issue before in Special Edition. In my case it was caused by a mod (or a few), and something weird I did I'm pretty sure. And even though the set stage commands allowed me to get through that part, another problem showed up when Mirmulnir (the dragon that you fight at the tower) would not show up and no amount of set stage commands were able to help me there. I ended up nuking that installation lol. But yeah just a heads up, if you have mods you might wanna check your load order and conflicts.

Thanks. Yes, I do have a few mods, but I tried it without them, too. No luck. I ended up scratching the whole game and starting over, this time not picking up the Dragonstone. That worked for me, though it would be nice if this glitch were fixed. (Along with the million other ones! lol)
