Gtx 1080 performance.
Will a GTX 1080 be enough to play this game with a smooth framerate. I'm planning on buying a Vive, since it has gotten a price drop.

VR worth it at all?

Yes it is worth it if u like F4 u like the vr version even better. This game had many issues at startup, but the most have been fixed. There are still some minor things u might struggle with.
A gtx 1080 must be sufficient enough to get a smoothy out of this game. But ofcourse like in general it all depends on many things with your system setup.

I think VR is well worth it, I mostly play all games in it now. But,l Ialso spent money putting together a PC as well as the VIve to play VR/Fallout VR. And I'm happy enough (or rather I can still find it fun) with how the 1070 runs FO4 though admittedly down the line when I need a new graphics card i'm hoping maybe the drawing distance gets farther and the resolution gets better (those are myt wo complaints about how FO4 VR runs. And I know it's not the resolution of my Vive, I'd be happy if the resolution was as good as it is when you look through a scope in FO4 VR).

But... there are rumors of the 1180 coming out so I'd wait and see on that. No one's fully hpapy with how FO4 runs now so if you have a chance to wait just a small bit and get a better card you'll probably be happier.

I currently have a GTX 1070 laptop. It fairs pretty well with all settings maxed except for AA (FXAA) and my SteamVR SS was 130% (~1512 X 1916 per eye). Mostly getting very reasonable and smooth frame rate, but not always 90FPS though.

I think a GTX 1080 would be able to perform better if you play around with settings.

There is most likely no “GTX 1180” or “GTX 2080”. All these sources are just rumours, not to mention, Nvidia CEO at June 2018’s Computex says the next Gen GPU is a “Long time from now”.

Nvidia has no direct competition, even against AMD. Pascal performs really well. So unless AMD decides to release Navi earlier than 2019 to prove it’s better than Pascal, Nvidia won’t be in a hurry.

Know your sources online. Some Writers just want to gamble and right fake/rumours for views.

If Nvidia is really keen on releasing a next gen GPU, they will tease it on their news or website, like how they did for the GTX 1080 Ti.

i upgraded from a RX480 to a GTX 1080...did fallout 4 run better? Sure, but it still chokes a bit from time to time.

Don't forget to factor in your CPU, FO4VR is very CPU heavy. I'm running the game on an i5 2500K (clocked at 4.4GHz) and a 1060 6 GB. Yes, it's below minimum spec, but it's actually quite playable in my opinion (even though I'm usually on 45 FPS, so with reprojection). But I'm pretty sure my CPU is holding me back more than my GPU. Every time the game hitches and I peek at my monitor, I see it's my CPU topping out at 100% usage.

I play this on my 1080 running about 1830mHz, and I can set ultra quality and supersampling around 1.3. It's a good time.

well...playing on 1070 was a medicore experience for me...but when i got 1080ti it was just great.....i think 1080 with tweaks will do

1080 works fine with no tweaks even on a Vive or Vive Pro. No hiccups, no tearing, no artifacts, no lag or skipping, etc.

I'm running this on a MSI gaming laptop with a 1080 and a Vive and it runs great.

I really hope that was sarcasm. If not, it's obviously a lie.

It will work just fine. I was using a 1080 to play until I ugraded to a Titan V.

Why are you being a d1ck? It works just fine. Maybe contain your comments to your scope of knowledge.

I have a vive pro with a 1080ti and i7 6700k. The game is ♥♥♥♥ right out of the box. If you dont tweak on the pro its going to be a laggy nightmare

Ever stop to think that the pro, since it has higher resolution, is going to need better hardware to run the same as the regular vive? So, how would you with a pro know how someone with a regular Vive's game runs? Fallout runs fine even on my 1070 with a regular Vive.
