I reckon I put almost as many hours into that game as I have done with Quake Champions :-)
...it's a very good game in it's own right
...but becomes an absolutely superb one when "fully modded" to your liking :-)
I hope to replay it sometime...when I can muster the strength to download/install all of the latest mods I'll need on the SE ;-)
I cannot argue with you on that front...as my many, many crashes while modding the game will testify to !
That said, I think the original game's 4GB memory limit thing was a giant hurdle...especially with 130(ish) mods installed ! So to be fair I think it's pretty amazing that the game ran as well as it did ! :-)
I've heard that the SE version is significantly more stable and no longer suffers from the 4GB limit...I hope to one day get that up and running, fully modded on my current PC (better than the one I originally used) and see how it plays :-)
f4uck 'em. can't wait for starfield which will run on you guessed it, the same broken engine as all the previous FO games. FUN!
Opinions vary of course but for me, both of these games (QC/Skyrim) are among the very best games I've ever played...and in their specific genres (multi-player fps / Single-player fantasy RPG) they are still King.
I never considered modding Skyrim a necessity...in fact I considered it a hobby in it's own right...work and frustration was involved...but the end result was amazing. Having your character walk into a tavern and hear the local bard playing music you chose and inserted into the game is quite a trip for example. I don't regret a single minute I spent on that game...so I can't be too hard on any flaws it may have had ;-)
= = =
ofc we've gone way off the OP's topic, the solution to which is:
1) use an SSD for your OS and game files if you are able
2) don't use ULTRA quality textures
...use HIGH quality or lower (HIGH looks as good as ULTRA anyway)
3) understand that QC is never going to be the fastest loader in your library ;-)
With an SSD and HIGH textures (on a Ryzen 3700X with 16GB Ram and a 2070 SUPER)
I find the load times "acceptable" but if you are using a 10+ year old PC and especially if have your OS and Game running off a HDD...well even with LOW textures it might become a bit tiresome...it is what it is.
the pc customization of the gamebryo engine is not a matter of opinion. is a matter of fact. if you read my statement carefully again, you will notice that i only criticize the performance of these games, not the game itself.
if you wanted to expand your skyrim experience you are free to do so but never forget that you could only do that because of modders who did this for free. that goes for all the games fixes and bugs fixes too. so f4uck bugthesda for being lazy taking money for the third time from players.
that was a mix of fact and opinion btw. it's still cool that despite all of these shortcomings you had so much fun.

my loading times are short. i don't know what the fuss is about and my rig is far away from being high end.
I'm pretty sure this is one of those "wires crossed" conversations.
I'm guessing it was probably my "opinions vary" remark...in hindsight it was a poor choice of phrase because you seem to have taken it as an "attack" on something technical in your post (NOT my intention !).
What I actually meant was "opinions vary about Quake Champions and Skyrim" in that some people really dislike one or both games...and other people really like one or both games...I was saying this as an "opening statement" before going on to say how much I personally REALLY like(d) both...being that imo they are two of the very best games I've ever played.
If you want to rant about Bethesda and how they failed to patch/fix their game(s) properly and were lucky that creative and generous mod developers effectively "bailed them out" then fill your boots ! ;-)
