Quake made me realize what DPI I should be playing at...
I usually play CSGO and PUBG around 1600 DPI on default sensitivity... however, since playing Quake again more regularily it has forced me to rethink what I put my DPI at in FPS games in general. I went down 1200 felt more comfortable, however I recently tried 800 and my god the difference it makes!

So going from starting out at 3200, and finally down to 800... I have quake to thank for finally making me realize my ideal DPI. (:

For me, low sensitivity := better accuracy

Launch it from the steam store page. When I do that the graphics are fine. Launch from the library they suck and are patchy I don't know why.

1. DPI is not sensitivity! Its resolution. Its tied to sensitivity, cause your mouse can recognize more points on a shorter distance if it has higher DPI, but the purpose is different. DPI is for precision - You basically don't need more than 800-1200 DPI for games like quake. You shouldn't get less tho. Sensitivity just say how fast your coursor moves compare to distance you make with your mouse. 2 different things.

Not just for you, for many players. Thats because you have more control over your mouse movement. This is good in games like CS where you have more time for your movements and mouse is mostly connected to aiming. In quake on the other hand mouse is tied very much to movement, cause its a fast pace game and low sensitivity can put you in a big disadvantage (when you need to react while in the middle of rocket jump for example). Players usually say that basically on a one sweep you should be able to turn yourself around 360 degrees. Gaining control over your aim with high mouse sensitivity is the master key.

This is why back in the days players from CS were coming to play Quake - to get better control over fast pace aiming.

Yeah, you can be much more precise on a lower sens. But take care of your wrist, you don't want to go too low.
I unfortunately can't go as low as I'd like with my curent mouse, the sensor sucks and it doesn't register fast movements which would make it impossible to do a 180 fast enough.

if you wristaim you certainly not doing yourself a favor in terms of physical issues later on and aiming in general.

use your whole arm for moving the mouse, it feels wonky at first but if you play like this for a week it gets way better trust me.

That's why I said (DPI) on (Sensitivity)... I used those terms seperately. I thought it would be important to address what sensitivity I was using in tandem with my DPI so that's why I said 'default sensitivity' at X DPI.

A good way is to measure your 360. Most Quake players tend to be somewhere in between 20-30cm. Some go as far as 60cm but they're rare.

I too was playing a higher dpi before this game, now I'm using 1.6 sense at 800dpi. It makes a world of difference.

I am using 50/360 cm with a big mousepad (Steelseries Qck heavy) and Cougar Revenger S (VERY good Pixart PMW3360 sensor) and I have no problems with it (Always played low sense in all quake and ut games on lans and tournaments).

Btw DPI is no measurement for precision. It´s only a multiplicator (dpi+software sensitivity) inside your mouse.

The only problem could be that you don´t use your native dpi for your mouse sensor. If set to high the sensor will interpolate and your aim won´t be pixel perfect and you eventually get tracking errors.

So it is recommended to use the native dpi of your sensor (Many mice had a native dpi of 400-800 years ago)

Basically a dpi with a mousesense of 2 is the same as a dpi of 800 with a mousesense of 1 (roundabout).

You might want to disable display scaling on high DPI Settings
To do this go to the Quake.exe right click go to “Properties” then to “Compatibility” tab click on “Change settings for all users” then tick the box “Disable Fullscreen Optimizations” then click “Change High DPI Settings”. Where it says “High DPI Scaling Override” tick the box and select “Application” then ok, enjoy the new mouse precision. :IAMSOLAME:
You can do this with all games:DLskull:
Then make sure “enhance pointer precision” is NOT checked in windows mouse settings
I personally have my DPI in my synapse set at 850 for the horizontal and 750 for the vertical:DJSkully:
