Does This Game Still Have A Live Player Base
I am a massive DOOM fan and I've been wanting to play this game for a while. Is the player base still active? if so, any tips for a new player?

Australian players report a very small player base (in fact the entire Asia-Pacific region does), so you may (probably will) encounter problems with finding matches with actual people, and the skill level may easily get unbalanced when you do. If a ~30 GB download is not a problem, you can try nevertheless, the game itself is playable without spending money on it.
Consider checking other channels, like reddit or discord, there is said to be something about AUS+QC, but I don't know details.
Yes, about 1000 active players, about 400 in the mornings, at night about 300, 1000 during peak.

If you are in Australia, you won't be able to find a match easily, Europe is the most active.

It's quite healthy at the moment, but your location indeed is a big question mark. I can't imagine your ping being very good if you connect to US or EU servers.

Yes it most certainly has an active player base.

If you live in the EU or NA you shouldn't have so much trouble ideally.

It's a bit more problematic if you're in Asia, Australia, South America or especially South Africa (that had its servers shut down).

Since you're also a DOOM fan like myself you should also be able to run the game just fine.

The only limiting factor is your routing path to the servers. If it's good, no problems, if it's bad there's little you can do about it.

The game is fantastic, the only bad part is that is uses the piece of crap "always online" model. Everything runs on remote servers, you can't even train with bots offline, not to mention hosting servers. As I've said, the game is really good the "always online" part is just garbage.

Anyway, definitely give it a try !

I have no trouble finding games in Europe and can even connect to US east cost with <100ms. There's a healthy playerbase although you might sometimes see the same people.

You are late. Online is: 600-700. The game is dead
most alive afps currently available, ql and dbt coming strong second

Like others have mentioned, depending on your global location and which regional servers you can have a reasonable ping to, the player base is live enough to find matches quickly in 'normal' gaming hours. When I play, with at least 3 or 4 commonly played modes selected in my search, I usually find matches in 20 to 30 seconds.

My tip: force yourself to believe that you want to lose while playing well.

It still has few very active players.

Nonetheless shooter which usualy has 350-720 peoples playing has little future I'm afraid.

This game tried to tempt new players with hero shooter style character skills but those skills are very rarely usefull and for 99% of time they are forgotten.
This game tried to tempt veteran players but they would usually prefer no character skills at all or skills that are never worth of using.

EU games can be found 24/7 (sometimes you get some imbalanced duel matches but whatever).

NA is alright-ish.

ASPAC is kinda dead though

I want to know the game ausies dont complain about a small player base.

Maybe Im just too much of a cynic, but something about a small population over a contient thats 99.9% desert never having a player base dosent suprise me.

AFAIK AUS players play on "ASPAC South", so they could play with anyone from South-Eastern Asia, perhaps India too. But it's not like a 25M country could not put together 8 players alone: I often see matches where half of the players are Danish and Norwegian, and the combined population of these two countries is less than 11M - though all of these people are in a single time zone.
