too difficult for beginners
i think that that you cannot put together players that have 3000 hours of quake live with beginners...the result? beginners like me make 5 kills and stop to play, and the game die. This game is fun but you have to do a beginner area, so noobs of quake like me can play, because if i always die after 10 seconds i return to play doom,...otherwise the game will have 100 players and die

The issue is there isn't a lot of big things they can change about the game to make it easier. They can't give in to new players, the game is known for being rather hardcore and requiring a lot of playtime and knowledge to master. Beyond tutorials there is minimal if any hand holding expected.

Even last update they attempted to make changes to help newer players move faster and the result was dumbed down mechanics that adversly affect players who already know how to strafe jump, so they have to be very careful.

Quake wasnt and will not be an easy game, not matter the opponent. When i started playing Quake Live seriously some 6-7 years ago, i could survive in the lower tiers because of my past FPS experience and i also had good knowledge of strafejumping (thanks Wolf:ET), but when i started to get better and reached the higher tiers, i got my rear end handed to me on a silver plate constantly. Took me one solid month of daily avg 14-16 hours of gameplay to hold my own in the higher tiers but still got totally destroyed by th most skilled.

Quake will survive on money. If Bethesda will invest enough in advertising the game (and i am confident they will), it will have enough players to keep the playerbase intact. But if it wont have more than at least 20k when the live games come out, it will be doomed.

Quake beginner checking-in. Here's a video of me getting annihilated:

WHAT AM I DOING WRONG? Probably not bunny hopping around enough, or cirlce-strafing enough, or not timing out the armor pick-ups so I can always stay shielded.

the problem of beginners in the beginners themselves, because they are not in the game, I also ran into the problem that, even being Bronze Tier 1 in duels, some players dominate. JUST NEED MORE PLAYERS. sorry for my english
Noobs) add me to friend, will play together

I watched only a fragment of your video, but from what I saw it seems to me that you often take fights where you have just the starting nailgun (arguably the worst weapon in the game - even among other starting weapons) and opponents dominate you by using better weapons like rocket launchers or lightning guns. On these occasions where you do grab these better weapons, you're actually doing quite well for a newbie. Learn the locations of major weapons on each map and how to get there quickly regardless of your respawn point. Then focus on getting these weapons and your score should improve.

there is not enough player base for a begginers only MM, so you will have to wait for the game relase or deal with and git gud like many of us did.

It wont be when it goes free to play. The game is gonna blow up.

Hey! Thanks a lot! Yeah...first thing I do when I spawn is try and head toward the rocket launcher, but if I come across someone, I usually engage in a fight. I find it very hard to escape other players if they see me (even if I play as one of the faster characters), so that's why I choose "fight" instead of "flight."

Also, I love the look of the Quake 1 nailgun, which is the main reason I use it, but...I guess I'll probably switch to the shotgun so I can practice making single, precise shots instead of spraying everywhere.

more players or bots would solve the problem, but most people nowadays dont want to play a game, especiallly a shooter, where you have to invest a relatively long time in the game to even moderately compete with others, even more if we're talking about duel and not regular deathmatch. Thats why Call of Duty is so popular and successfull. Quake Champions is my first Quake, and I've been playing since the start of the closed beta, I was super hyped for it and the game exactly hits the spot for me, it does have flaws, but I love it! I had to watch quite some tutorial videos for strafing and correct executions of Rocket Jumps etc., also bought Quake 3 Arena afterwards to compare it to Champs and also train strafing there, since I could play against bots and it also has the map which is now know as blood covenant, and I do have to say, as someone who has no nostalgia for Quake 3 and Live, they brought the "Quake Formula & Feeling" to a new game really well, and the developing team does show effort and the game makes progresses, altough the entry to the game is pretty rough, I had the passion and effort to get better at the game, which I dont think many have. Before even playing the game, I already heard the Quake Community was a tough place, by now I think, there is a lot of people causing a lot of Toxicity towards the game, less on the Bethesda forums, but especially on Steam, when going through the community Hub most threads have negative headlines, plenty of trolls and lots of hate towards the game, that and low player numbers (after Pubg hit the market, player numbers and Twitch views is the most important thing), is what scares off new people, furthermore the business model can be quite confusing, at first and for me still, the desiscion to go Early Access suprised me. Lots of uncertenty, but people, try to show more support and effort, try to make the game better, be a welcoming community, tell your friends bout it, otherwise the game certainly wont fail, but also certainly wont get to be what it has the potential to be. I think I've said enough to state my fellings and concerns about the game and its community, I hope some think the same as I do, I wish QC all the best and dont see an end to myself playing the game, see you in the Arena!:steamhappy:

in the words of a pro "it doesn't matter how you play, some bull%h1t can happen"

This Game is more friendly to casuals since everyone has a chance , it doesn't matter how much stack your opponent has . you get lucky he's dead. that in addition to the 3 kill Duel format and you have 50/50 chance of potentially hitting a rocket that's gonna win you a game.

Seriously wake up.

It should be hard for beginners... because this is what quake is all about. It is a hardcore shooter not for everybody, only for the hard ones ;)... everybody else should play something more causal. Thats also why Quake will never gain such playercounts as CS, OW or PUBG... it is and will ever be a niche shooter for the hardcore gamers

Could you please share information about this magical weapon that will allow me to kill a fully stacked opponent instantly if I "get lucky"?...

... Or is someone here just being salty? :)

Always good to hear feedback from new players! (And welcome to the Quake community!)

While most of these replies are correct in the sense that Quake is a game where you get more out of it the more you put into it, there's a difference between a high skill ceiling and a high skill floor. I've said it before, but Quake should be a game you can still jump into and have a good time with, without having to dive into advanced mechanics as a prerequisite before you can start having fun.

The recent changes to movement for most of the Champions (Galena and Scalebearer being the ones that changed the most, and have the most new player-friendly movement) is one area we found we could make an improvement for beginners. There are other things we're looking at too, not just in terms of game mechanics but in terms of matchmaking, AI, etc.

Just remember that even if you're getting fragged a lot when you first start out, eventually that starts to shift further in your favor as you learn more about the Champions, maps, weapons, and movement. :) There are a lot of really good community-made tutorials out there you might want to check out, and you can always set up some games with friends (or your friendly fellow players) to practice.

Good luck, and have fun!
