I consider myself a pro at Duke Nukem 3D, but I've had about the last 20 years to improve my game to that level. Also, Warcraft: Orcs & Humans, but have been playing that a bit longer.

Depends on which generation you are.

The ones that grew up with facebook and text messages probably dont' like long posts. Occasionally you will find people seem to want to kill you for making a post longer than one sentence as though you've done something wrong.

The earlier gamer generation got most their knowledge of games through reading reams of paragraphs about games.

As such when we got gamer forums. It was normal back then to make really long posts. Even going off on a tangent was seen as adding value to your post.

Right now it seems long posts is a dieing breed. It is the older gamer. And probably in a few years there won't be such a thing as long posts ever again.

When I see a long post I'll admit it puts a big smile on my face right away. ( probably because it reminds me the way I remember the world, gamers used to always have reams of paragraphs to say, not just about games, but the meaning of life even, always interesting to read! - or atleast it used to be this way a long long time ago!)

But it's true after spending time to read through them. Not all are the best quality. Sometimes they're just padded out meanderings and lack of conciseness.

I skimmed through this one, and yeah I agree with you. There are too many people writing long, nonsensical crapposts online that I just don't bother anymore, even if I may miss out on a well formed opinion (which is rare even among short posts).

And I like your style of writing - you remind me of the good old days when people would have civilized discussions on online forums. I would also write insanely long posts. But those days are long gone - the world's ever changing.
