Is Apex Legends taking over?
Fortnite lost 24% of its playerbase, PubG 28%, Csgo 20%, Overwatch 18%... As a result, Apex Legends has hit 10 millions active players mark, in just 3 weeks stretch. Interesting how the movement and fight mechanics in Apex Legends, feel very much like Quake. So, the tough question inc - Should Quake Champions do something similar? Should they shift to more modern and obviously more popular Battle Royale?

Just tried Apex Legends..... I feel like you waste even more time than QC with the lack of action and then having to log back in. I made it to final 2 teams and still such a lack of action. Plus I get all kinds of crashes with the game and it seems many others do as well.

I'm not saying QC is good but what a waste of time those battle ground games are. I'll be uninstalling Apex. It's clear the people pumping up Apex are not long time quake players.

you can slide straight its litterally quake xdddd

Apex Legends is using Valve's source engine, which was initially built from the modified version of IdS q3 engine. So yeah, the game does feel like Quake and thats a positive thing.

Same

EA is viraling Apex so hard because they want the next Fortnite but ADHD'd 12 year olds only have so much free time and mom's purse only runs so deep.

Well, truth be told they did an awesome job with Apex - it's a solid and well-prepared game. That being said I'm on the same page with you, meaning that it's just not my thing.
no, the only real shooter on market is quake...idiots....learned 1 game during last 20y and they think they are good gamers O_o

Define a good gamer?

While I'm not the sort who has played one game or one genre for the past 25 years, sometimes I wish I had. This old saying comes to mind.

Jack of all trades, master of none.

There are already reports that Apex is currently one of the worst performing MP games out right now in terms of network performance, with extremely slow servers, high ping compensation and even fairly low game performance in terms of FPS too. I've heard it runs like a dog on the xbox one too.

There is a very in-depth look at the net performance on youtube, and it isn't pretty.

Beyond that it has fairly anti-consumer practices. eg. 2 x Easter skins cost 1100 coins. 500 coins costs $10 - so you need to spend $30 to get just 2 stupid Easter skins. xD

If by polished people mean it looks nice - then yes. Does it have some features that make BR type games more accessible and enjoyable - yes. The ping thing seems useful, and easier inventory management is useful ....if your playing games with inventories that is. Non of this is comparable to QC. The only thing they have in common is f2p and guns, and even then...

Its popular in my sons class at school - I asked him why and he said its less intimidating than fortnite, and a lot easier because you dont have to worry about building. He's 10.

The vast majority of the fast and fluid experience people have is down to the viral amount of people playing it, which is ultimately down to fortnite, which is ultimately down to pubg... not the technical aspects of the game - which early reports suggest are not special at all.

good gamer is flexible gamer - who plays good any game u throw at him. That's why talented players adjust very fast to different situations. On the other hand u have good players in 1 title - who play it all their life. Take them to other game, and suddenly they suck hard. I would say even more, take them to a new map in the game they play 20y, and they suck there too. And I have nothing against this, not everyone is a prodigy , but ffs, stop going into forums explaining how all other games are worse than the game u have been playing for 20y, while u barely touched other games.

So answering to "jack of all trades" saying - for me a player that is nr 2 world in 3 games is overall better gamer than a player that is nr 1 world in 1 game only.

I am not Apex defender or anything. But surprisingly whenever a topic of a new fps game arises on q forums, ppl come and elaborate how this new game is s****t compared to quake, then u check their profile, and u see they pretty much do not even touch other games than quake.

Also mind Apex is in deep alpha, released like few weeks ago. How ppl expect fluid servers? In first week they reached over 100 mln players, its a miracle those servers are able to keep up at all. In QC they cant provide stable servers/network after 2 years of open access development....

I am not arguing quake is harder game - but it doesn't mean its better game on objective terms.

And pls, do not bring me here argument that quakers play quake to become better and to master their skill, cause when i started to play quake in 2009 or so, when I didnt even know what rj is, I saw 'amazing' players playing since q1, and now, 8 y passed, and I am owning most of those ppl. So they did not increase their skill over this time, they are stucked at a comfortable lvl, mindlesly playing the same game over 20y, thats how it looks from my perspective. No progression as a gamer, just comfort zone after work. And funny enough, those are ppl who criticise other games the loudest.

Dude, the only problem is that QC doesn't have any alternatives atm. As a person who plays all kinds of games (and btw my top1 game is not even an FPS) except for very few genres that I can't stomach/find boring I find this whole "switched to apex" a complete bs.

If somebody would say something like "QC is dead, switched to Reflex" or "QC is dead went back to QL" that would make sense.

But apex? Are you serious?

Is apex fun? I don't know, I bet it is if so many people play it. I've played "Last Man Standing" with my friends for a week or so and br is not my thing. It's just too boring imo. At least I wouldn't play it for more than a week or two.

The only thing apex and this game have in common is that you shoot things from a first person perspective and that's it.

P.S. About "it's alpha, it will run better". Spoiler It will not.

P.P.S. Maybe you didn't get Percepticon's point. All he is saying is that "QC players" criticize QC performance and "netcode" and switch to apex. Which ironically has far worse performance and "netcode" than QC does.

while br is not ur thing, its a subjective opinion.

Objective opinion is that currently Apex is king of FPS games. If it's only a season histeria, or future GOTY 2019 or even more, well, time will show.

Hmm... Br being not my thing isn't a subjective opinion. It's not an opinion at all. It's my preference, chief. :morte:

U know what I meant, am not gonna argue on words here.

Someone's preference, as u want, doesn't justify saying something is bad or good objectively. Unfortunately not many ppl understand this difference.

I don't like potatoes. I like rice. Can I say that potatoes are s**t and expect ppl to respect this statement as objective opinion/analisis? I do not think so.

Yep thats about right, you said it better with less words.

What does that even mean...king of fps games? What qualities does a game need to have to be the king of FPS?

Apples and oranges.
how do compare a 1000 players 2y on the market game netcode to 100 000 000+ players 1 month on the market netcode? Throw 100 000 000 players on QC servers, ull see what happens :)

I do not have time to guide u how to objectively compare games. Lets just wait for the 2019 game awards and lets see where is QC and where is Apex.
