Is Apex Legends taking over?
Fortnite lost 24% of its playerbase, PubG 28%, Csgo 20%, Overwatch 18%... As a result, Apex Legends has hit 10 millions active players mark, in just 3 weeks stretch. Interesting how the movement and fight mechanics in Apex Legends, feel very much like Quake. So, the tough question inc - Should Quake Champions do something similar? Should they shift to more modern and obviously more popular Battle Royale?

Apex is battle royale Titanfall without the mechs and wall running. Have to say it's the only BR game I truly find good.

I tried pretty much every BR for a while, except pubg, and I'm now roughly 20 hours into Apex and loving every second. I don't even care when I get melted by the first guy I come across. I find the game insanely good so far, only thing I'm a bit salty about is that it's EA. But if they keep it up, release new characters, new weapons, new maps, it could be their great redeemer.

If they want to do a BR mode, I have an idea which I would consider to be significantly better than every other BR mode.

The game cannot compete with Quake Champions simply because they are two different types. It's like asking between a comedy and a horror movie which one is better, both are good in what they try to achieve. A quake player can play quake and apex, but will never leave quake for apex if he truly loves arena shooters. E.g. I play both quake and pubg. If quake did something to resemble BR and what is popular now, it just wouldn't be quake anymore, and whoever plays quake for quake would simply quit playing it.

Quake never had nor will have a huge player base simply because not everyone can play it and master it. I had to play quake for years before becoming decent at duels and other competitive modes. However, the first time I played a game of PUBG, I ended up in top 10. Skill is involved in both games but much more in quake, where luck plays a very small part.

Nope. That was 72 hours.
And yes , it's more interesting than wondering that you'll meet 2 turrets on enemy flag base where your team is filled with 2 bots keeping eyes on your weapon skin.

I've seen a few people saying the movement and fighting feels like Quake but I just dont see it, Quake is so much faster and the movement is much higher skill, likewise the shooting is way different, AL has a lot of slow projectile fire with location based damage while Quake has a lot of hitscan stuff, but I guess the nailgun/plasma gun is similar to AL weapons.

That being said, even though I dont think they play that similarly, AL does have really good movement and combat mechanics in its own right and I'm having a absolute blast with it. Its the first BR I've really enjoyed and is a nice distraction while I wait for the devs to figure out what they're going to do with QC as we wait for the next content patch in a couple of months... hopefully...

I also hope they dont make a Quake BR (not that I expect they are even thinking about it), I just cant see it working well unless they move away from the Q3 style (probably for similar reasons Respawn said wall running wasn't fun in BR, too much mobility doesn't lend itself to BR) and do more of a ET:QW type game again but I would prefer they just made ET:QW 2 though. AL is fun because it hits the sweet spot for me between fast(ish) action and methodical, tactical gameplay.

Apex is a mess literally and figuratively. Some things I ran across that I found bizarre:

-Spawn with no weapon or character weapon class. Fly in and scavenge like you do for health and ammo.
-Although revive is advertised, it's nowhere to be found. One shot at the battle, return to main menu like all other BR.
-Characters seem to have bravado in the intro screens, getting into the game, that disappears and is reduced to a teen like theme or anime. It's like they could not decide between adult and teen theme, so they went down the middle.
-No real action, claims to be fast paced. I did nothing but run around empty maps until I found one opponent.

I get it's free, but that is probably my last attempt at BR. Not for me. Whatever they are "taking over" isn't going to include me.

I am a Quake player and I'm not interested in another BR game.

Nah, we good. Even if QC loses 20% of it's player base to it, that would only be like 50 people. QC is unstoppable.

No. This is what people were suggesting for the UT-Pre Alpha to do as well since that belongs to Epic. These arena shooters already have a mode like that and it's called last man standing. More so, not everyone is a fan of battle royale. I've tried Fortnite. Could not get behind it. I've tried Apex and while it does play great and I do like Respawn as devs, I can't get behind that as a game to play regularly.

I'm not the best at Quake but I know I can at least have good games. I tried maybe 8 rounds of Apex and all of them I died within moments of getting started. And that isn't fun to die, then wait, then leave and start another match just to perhaps have that happen again and again. And that's the thing with BR games is your survival is based on what items you randomly get at the start. Set weapon spawn areas, you know exactly where to go and how to get it as long as you learn each map with Quake and UT. So I prefer arena type games how they are because everyone is using the same items as long as they choose to use them. Let's keep it that way.

Got same impression so far. First time BR mode feels as a meaningful PvP concept. Ultimately, if Devs know what they r doing, BR can be interesting mode. Also im glad that overhyped trash like Fortnite and Overwatch r getting their ass kicked by none the less but EA.

Would like to say, that QC is likely to happen same what happen to Q3, where after its release Valves made Counter Strike on modified Q3 engine and further on smartly adapt it, for what bigger audience wanted in that moment. Now Q3 was still able to keep on rocking, cause it is one of the best games ever made and it was a race between CS, Q3 and Unreal. Nowdays tho, QC is having much harder task, with so many look-like games of a same genre. Unless (big unless) Devs stop being stubborn so much and listen to what the actual market demand is.

I don't give a damn about battle royale games. They are boring as f**k.

Valve didn't make CS in the first place. It was a mode for Half-Life made by few modders. Half-Life, on the other hand, was made with source engine which is heavily modified id tech 2 or Quake 1 engine if you like.

The moving and fighting mechanics don't feel like Quake...

I keep seeing everyone say "I hate BR but Apex Legends is amazing" so I gave it a try...it's... okay? Slightly more mobility focused, slightly more refined, but still a pretty run of the mill BR at the end of the day.

1. Pretty par for the course.
2. What? You can pick up downed players, and unique to that game if a player on your team is outright killed you can still revive them at a revive beacon if you get the thing off their body fast enough.

LoL pretty much this. At one point Devs should stop listening to the nerds and their b1atch-preaching of how new treandings would hurt QC identity. ID Software should look around and see what works and what doesnt and try to bring into QC.
