Its a very demanding map being so open, although iconic in Quake 3 Arena / Live. Its certainly a hit and miss favourite, splitting people down the middle.
I just use the shotgun instead the HMG and i really enjoy playing on it. Sad not many are like that so the map rarely gets picked
Side note: good luck using the shotgun on a camper at the rail. Personally I tend to choose nailgun for starter, so it can push the campers down from the platform. It's more educational than just shooting them down with the machinegun.
Yeah Rail campers are annoying and impossible to get with the shotgun
The maps openness does'nt suite me, can get shot from everywhere, allways fight interruptions, never a clean 1v1, long distances between weapon pickups(therefore left using unaccurate MG on a wide open map..)
Also, I snipe because I want to make others annoyed when playing it so it gets less played, and because that is the most fun for me on that map.
Second, It's a very "open map" that leaves you exposed at the mercy of better players, who can easily pick off newer (or inexperienced) players over and over again especially with the railgun.
Third, because it's not a "traditional style" Quake map,
These types of "space" maps never came about until after Quake 3 was released. They simply do not resemble the "Old School Quake" experience in any way.
Personally, I like the maps on occasion, but they are not my favorites.
Not true, you can easily camp under the bottom in the area where the heavy machine gun is located, picking people off at the top, and using the map as a barrier between you and the enemy.
Camping can be a pretty effective strategy on this map, actually. Even more so than others.
I've used that strategy also, and placing them along either side as well. I usually start along the bottom, get the HMG, then once I've collected all the hourglass, I make my rounds to the top to look for the Heavy Armor, or the goodies located above the jumppads, then back down to the bottom again. Getting my timers down.
It is a fun and effective strategy
My only point is that campers can hide in those rooms, (I find them there all the time) although it does them little good. -using a properly placed RL shot down along the corners is effective for getting some "ring out" metals, BTW. I love when that happens.
Couldn't agree more
