Something to think about before you cry "Camper!"
If you know exactly where someone is and you cannot kill them, that is on you. That is a reflection on your skill level, not the skill level of the person parked in a spot killing you over and over and over again.

When someone can destroy you without having to dodge, change angles or throw any variance or effort into their attack, that isn't a reflection on them being bad, that's a sign you need to play offline with bots for a while.

Crying about camping is like calling someone a pu$$y because they are beating your a$$ with one hand tied behind THEIR back.

Nah-

To be totally honest, there are people that camp a lot. For example, in blood covenant, people set where the railgun spawns and back from that hall and it gives them a perfect sniper spot in the lift that leads to the quad.

I've seen people camping there and when you go to kill them they just use their champion ability and it's hard to take them out of there, specially if you are on regular deathmatch and no one to back you up to go frag that camper.

Camper is an old term, is not new. People have been camping always. And yes, you can call them campers.

Exactly!

Winding the others up 'till they burst with rage has always been an integral part of the Quake multiplayer experience.

Camping like a ♥♥♥♥ is part of this.

To those who complain:

stop snivelling...

There are some very anoying camping spots that give total noobs the chance to rack up kills.
Blood Convenant for example.
Grab nail gun and stand in long hall move left right left right while holding down nail gun first person who comes trough portal gets insta killed + everyone using the bouncer and if you have a half decent headset you can hear people comming from behind.

Lockbox get gelina spam ur healing totem at portal ggwp.
They are damn funny to do for half a minute but some people just run back after they get killed and do it over and over again which isnt really a big deal but it causes rounds to be extreamly boring

It doesn't matter if it's not related to duels or 2v2.

Camping sucks. There is nothing wrong with denying a weapon for a few seconds, or waiting for an item to spawn. But camping the same spot for the entire match is lame. Especially in Instagib. That kind of playstyle is not characteristic of Quake. That is the reason why most Quake players call CS Camper Strike. This game is all about speed and movement.

I've.... never heard of anyone crying about campers in Quake..
We hilariously berate them and ♥♥♥♥ all over them though, can't tell you how many garbage people I've seen in random TDM/DM lately that stand still to shoot or sit in one spot... they just get merc'd. Hard.... and then usually just stop playing, they don't quit the match, they just stop playing hahah

Who's crying about this? lol

I think the main driver is skill. I have never cried about a camper, because I haven't run across one I culd not kill. If you are good, it would make sense that you never cried about it.

I'm really not that good, usually place between 2-4 on average.
But camping in Quake is a death sentence, it still blows my mind I actually see people standing perfectly still trying to aim and shoot in this game, much less camping spawns.

Must be CoD players or something thinking they can Quake they way they play those other, lesser FPS games.
Live and learn, I guess lol

Exactly. So when people rage over their inability to kill said camper, that is a reflection on their own skill level.

Yes, there are less campers now. I used to play Quake 2 around 1999, and it was full of campers. Now camping is a little more hard than back in the day. For example, the best measure about campers was the mechanic of picking up weapons, you may have realized that, for example, if you picl up the railgun, it gives you 10 slugs (or ammo), and if you pick the railgun again (in it's spawning spot) it won't give you 10 extra slugs but just 1. To have 10 extra railgun slots after you already have one you must pick a railgun from a dead player, well, back in the day it wasn't like that, you picked up a weapon and then pick it up in the same spot and you will keep recieving those 10 extra slugs (in this case) making camping a more viable 'technique'. Now things are not like that, but that doesn't mean that people don't camp, you see, campers find a way.
