It still has some rough edges and some balance issues but it gets better as time passes.
Now to answer your questions : Even though the game is great the business model is a piece of crap and is the main reason why we don't get nice things like LAN anymore.
You only have the client side of the game installed on your computer. For LAN, offline mode and other stuff you also need the server part.
Quake 3 had the server part integrated.
Now because they infested everything with microtransactions and loot boxes and all that crap the game needs to be "always online" to protect all of those assets in the virtual store.
This is why you only have the client, and if they ever pull the plug on the official servers without releasing the server part to the community the game will become completely unplayable.
So talke a leap of faith and play it hoping that one day we will have access to LAN and everything else.
If you like it, find a way to contribute financially so that it doesn't die. Champions pack is still a good deal. Loot boxes are crap.
