I know strafe jumping is what makes Quake but...
It makes zero sense. I know it was a glitch in the original coding that was left in on purpose and it makes the game unique in a way but it is very annoying at the same time.

Why on Earth would you gain velocity/momentum by turning instead of going straight? You'd actually lose momentum that way. An this whole wobling the mouse left and right during jumps to match the vector just looks stupid. Don't even get me started on Sorlag or Anarki who can actually gain momentum without even pressing W.

To me doing bunny hops in perfect rhythm, or wall jumps, or slides to gain speed would make much more sense.

Ok , but why changing it ?

No one cares whats makes sense. Its a game. How much sense arkanoid made? Give me a break, love it or leave it, better think twice.

It doesn't really need to be changed because it's Quake. I guess I'm just angry at Epic Games for wasting time on effing Fortnite instead of bringing out a new Unreal Tournament.

Its EXTREMELY basic once you spend 10 minutes learning the fundamentals correctly, and its actually very fun to navigate the map mixing in circle jump and strafe jumps to keep fluid movementy and momentum, if your complaining about it, it means your bad at it, and if you are bad at it you havnt put in the little time it takes to learn much less practice and play after.

Explain to me how jumping off a wall gives you crazy momentum without slowing down at all.

Actually you can strafe jump without "wobling the mouse left and right".
You just need an 45 degrees view angle and spam forward+left and right.

I like strafe jumping. You get more speed out of movement if you invest more time into developing that skill. Bunny hopping just requires that you hold W+SPACEBAR. Bunny hopping around corners is cool but doesn't really require much skill either. And bunny hopping around corners doesn't make much sense either, because you retain all forward momentum while traveling in a circle.

you actually dont need even that, you just hold left strafe + forward

True, but that is not as effective as "normal" strafe jumping.

Turning to match the vector gives more speed boost than just simple strafing.

Try what I said and you will see that it is as effective as "normal" strafe jumping. There are many strafe jumping techniques that work in Quake Champions.
45 degree view angle (to the left) and then forward+left jump right jump forward+left jump and so on. No wobling and still the same speed gain.

strafe jumping doesn't even hardly matter in QC, speed is capped pretty low (I think it's 500-600 ups depending on the champ, bar visor) and the maps are small, you're not at a too big disadvantage if you just walk everywhere
Combos were a glitch in fighting games as well and they shaped an entire genre. And thank god some fps still have skill ceilings instead of handfeeding you from the get-go.

Well I love quake but I have to admit that your opinion is understable...but is strafe jumping fun?
Should we replace it with bunny hoping? Well anyway the whole game is based on strafe jumping, bunny hoping sorlag, sliding....it's fun and it works!
But I think that circle jumping should be suppressed.
It's actually extremly hard to learn, and let's be honest, it doesn't add any interest to the game.
While strafe jumping takes 3 minutes to learn and is pretty fun.
