And the character you can get shortly after the tutorial has a get out of jail free card that CAN damage people at the same time.
To be comepletely honest, the free version only gives you two champions to give you a "taste" of what the game is like. If you like the GAMEPLAY, then after that you can grind your way (which will take long and is not that fun) or buy the champions pack to unlock all current and upcoming characters which I think is the best option considering it will cost less time and less money (if you want to unlock them by buying platinum)
The champions do not overpower the each other, they just offer different gameplay types. What matters is are they to your taste? Because even though Ranger is given to every type of player and everyone thinks he's just the starter guy, I still see high level pro players picking him and dominating while I can't do sh*t with him. It all comes down to your taste and gameplay.
I have a pro player friend (who participated in the free tournaments) who dominates as Clutch (even in Instagib where he is the biggest target) while I can't really play well with him. Why? He's not to my taste, but he is to my friend's, that's why he can win Instagib matches.
And since your taste changes from time to time (you know, somedays you like pizza and somedays you like cheeseburgers) it is best to unlock them all so you can play however you want whenever you want because through time, you will want to try them all.
I personally switched my main champions a lot through my 100 hours.
I think it's been like this: BJ>Galena>Scalebearer>Sorlag>Nyx>Strogg>Keel>Visor
Why did I change them so much? Because I get tired of eating pizza everytime or I like to try the new spicy food they've added to the menu.
For a while I liked setting traps while later on I liked throwing grenades at my enemies.
If you enjoy the gameplay, then I recommend you to buy the champions pack upgrade.
If not and you don't really connect to the Arena Shooter gamepaly, then you should probably go play games more suitable to your taste.
So overall, I'm saying it's not really a pay2win since Ranger is one of the most picked champions and Scalebearer can kick ass with the right gameplay (which is also given to you for free). And since you can grind new champs, I don't really see why you could call it pay2win. Yes, it does take long to grind champs but that's because they NEED to lure you to buy the champion pack. Why? Because making the game is their job, not a hobby. They need to put food on the table too.
Other free2play games either make it pay2win to get money or put in thousands of cosmetics. QC doesn't have a pay2win because it doesn't offer extra stats, damage and items and its cosmetics don't matter because unlike CSGO where having a knife is everyone's dream and makes everyone in the match envy you, here it just makes changes the looks a bit so you yourself would like your outfit. Half the times I can't tell if my enemy or teammate is using any other clothes than the default one because it doesn't matter. What matters is the fight. If you can fight well, no one gives a crap about what you look like.
