Only solution is to wait.
But also one of other causes can be awful quality of game's data centers.
This game depends on the ping and in the same time game lacks of data/game servers as well.
Incredible if you ask me.
It's not bad routing from my side, just the developers f***** something up here.
and sometimes routers break and your routing can change a lot.
you must be new to pc gaming...
Well this was useful.
I suspect that's where some of these answers can be found.

Only since id software changed something on their server location the pings are ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up. I guess the reduced theire server capacity to reduce costs. bad decission in my opinion.
your absolutely brainless btw
In my case start of the new season was okay (Sept. 19), apart from it started an hour later than expected (8:00 pm CEST, instead of 7:00). However after the non-detailed ~800 MB patch a week later (Sept. 26), my ping got significantly worse (20-30 -> 40-60), and gameplay introduced new challenges too. Not only servers occasionally decide that I am a couple meters to the left or right, but sometimes they suddenly replay 4-5 seconds of my recent actions, and I often end up dead in the process.
I am playing from a university (on EU central) and I find it unlikely that the university did anything to the network exactly at the same time, mid-week, when this game got an update. So I too would go with Dope's guess: probably the QC guys try to cut back operational costs.
...not to mention missing sounds introduced with one of the last updates.
and no, I didn't change anything about my internet connection - it run great, just as it did for the last few years. I don't think it's a coincidence since so many people seem to have ping problems all of a sudden.
edit: just played two matches to check out the ping thing... and it was solid 27-29 all the time. so might the fluctuation be connected to how many people are on the server at given moment? it's monday morning here, so not many people playing the game right now I suppose. yesterday evening was horrible tho.
unfortunately that's not the case (but yeah, I did have to enable sounds in the settings after the update tho). what I meant are the random missing sounds like completely silent jump pads every now and then, some complete ninja enemies running close by without making footstep sounds, etc.
