Perhaps Toxxic's strategy of not allowing server browsing for non-paying customers is the way to go.
Can't say it's a loss really. Fascist admins that ban or kick anyone that beats them got tiresome (not that I'm saying you are one of course).
Lastly, if the devs are worried about admin abuse they could just make the dedicated server files not have an admin login. This way people could put a server up and play on it, that's all. Password or un-password they should leave as option though. Some game companies have the dedi servers use their global ban info and admins cannot ban on their own... but not many do this.
I do hope they put a dedi server out later. That would be awesome. Game is looking pretty good so far, I like what I see.
Only former beta testers can currently play for free via the Bethesda Launcher, (Humble Bundle Monthly last month gave Steam access + champion BJ, but that wasn't free ).
Currently the developer answer on this was no, due to security issues, as offline play effectively needs an internal server for all the game logic, that's why there is currently no offline play also.
In earlier interviews Tim Willits had said he'd love to see QL server hosts shifting to QC though, so at some point in the future things might change.
Has this game ever gone on sale below the 29 bucks?
-We've been asking for this feature since before the closed beta began.
-The current answer is still a definite "NO".
-It doesn't matter if you have an intermittent connection and can't always play the game even if you paid for it. (You should have known what you're getting into).
-It doesn't matter if you routing path to the servers is crappy and you have 100ms ping while trying to play a custom match with a person in the same building as you because you both have to connect to a server far away instead of hosting your games on LAN.
-None of that matters and the invariable answer you will receive when asking for server binaries, besides "NO" is that the "game is not for you".
-It's all tied to the business model of the game somehow.
-There's still a glimmer of hope for the future looking at how they treated Quake Live. Eventually, after some years they also released the server binaries. It seems we have a long wait ahead of us, but there are no guarantees that they'll take the same route this time around.
- I forgot, there's also an army of imbeciles and morons with fiber cables running up their butts that always recite "It's 2018 bro', everything is always online." Sorry I forgot about those.
Lastly, if they release the server to the public at the same time the next quake comes out that doesn't count.
