Small champions are too weak to survive long enough in the hands of a new player.
Tank champions are too easy to hit especially when controlled by a new player, but they do take longer to die so it might be worth a try.
I would suggest more balanced champions such as Visor / Ranger / Slash, those that are not too weak on health and armor but are small enough to not be an easy target as Clutch/Scalebearer e.g.
But afterall, you will try them out one by one and figure out what fits your style. I love each of them in different ways.
P.S. It also depends on what game mode you choose to play. In DM where dozens of people are all fighting in the same spots, you can use sorlag with her spit ability to get easy kills or scalebearer to mow through them. For a duel I would rather go with a smaller but quicker champ but that's just me. I play mostly TDM and in that mode any champ is ok imo.
Something you can do to help get familiar with the game is to start a custom game, set a high timelimit, and join it without anyone else so that you're in an empty map. Experiment with the various champions to learn their movement characteristics and their various abilities, as well as the map layout. It's a great way to learn some basic skills without having to worry about getting pounded on by experienced players.
After that, I guess Doomslayer, good stats and his passive is really good.
Sorlag: Tanky, not too big or slow, easy to use damage-dealing active ability.
Ranger: Well balanced in every regard - extremely versatile active ability.
Doom Slayer OR B.J.: Also fairly balanced statwise, and both have passives that help compensate for mistakes. (B.J. for soaking up chip damage, Doom Slayer for screwing up mobility/jumps).
Ranger is the most vanilla and flexible to learn with, and practicing with him will probably carry over your experience to other champions better than any other. Sorlag is the simplest and most forgiving hero to play - very strong, even with a low skill floor.
Save the faster and more complex heroes for later, until you get a good sense of Quake Champions' speed and twitch-reflex shooting. If you want to expand past the basics, I suggest Galena, and using her totems as portable medkits that double as explosive traps. That'll help you think more strategically.
Ranger is the best because with his ability you can reach any part of map whiout effort. Also you can learn rocket jump ,because he get 25% less self damage.
Easy to use, and easy to master.
Ranger is da best.
